Passed a Cop Today speeding on purpose

Wow Vegas! I had no idea that there is so much leeway regarding traffic tickets, laws, etc., in LV. \"Fix\" a traffic ticket so it's reduced to a \"parking\" ticket? Wow! I like the year-round firework superstores in Pahrump and other outlying areas of NV. Prostitution still legal (s/b everywhere IMO), gambling, 24 hour bar action, what's not to like? Too bad there's no longer no speed limit though. Does Montana still have it?

Fixing traffic tixs is a very competetive business around here. You have numerous billboards, bus benches advertising their services.

Prostitution is not legal here in Las Vegas, which is actually a county ordinance. Therefore, the closest legal brothel is about 50 miles away in the next county, in the town of Pahrump, where member BillM lives, and we all have to start wondering what the reason why he's living there don't we?

Montana does have a speed limit. For a short time, they did not have one during daylight hours on certain stretch of the interstate.

I just got a ticket from a motorpatrol. 50 in a 30. Absolutely ridiculous, the road is four lanes wide. I lost track of my speed (it was downhill) and he pulled me over. I thought he might have been cool about it, but he was a dick. I never got a ticket before, and he wasn't hearing it. Total BS.

20 miles over the speed limit is ridiculous, or the speed limit? I stopped a cyclist running 65 in a 25 the other day. Two lane residential road with school zone traffic and pedestrians everywhere. He thought it was ridiculous too.

I know how you guys are feeling... About two weeks ago I was late for work so I was headed to work the normal route at 500 AM. The road is a back road, one lane each direction, 55 mph speed limit, near the start it has straights and long curves and it gets into some tighter twisties further in. I know I'm late so I'm going a little fast and there is a car tailgating right on my butt, so I'm not pushing that hard at all because I know that I can go 90-100 mph with no effort whatsoever. Occasionally there are cops posted in the evening, but I've never seen any in the morning. (This was morning) So anyway right as I come around a curve, I haven't even straightened the bike up I see the headlights of what I later learn is a CHP cruiser parked on the side of the road facing the opposite direction. As soon as I saw the lights the CHP Car turned on the light bar on top of the car, I didn't even have time to slow down. I have no idea how the cop even had time to radar me since I was going around a curve. Anyway I pulled over, the car never pulled over and the officer just let them go, and the officer said "Good morning, you were doing 74 mph, the speed limit is 55. License and registration please, you are getting a ticket." :jawdrop: I had no idea I was going that speed, I thought she was pulling me over cause my high beams were on or something. What a Biatch, this chick didn't even give me a chance to explain that I was late or that I'm an EMT or anything. She didn't even ask any questions. I was so angry. This was the first time I've ever been pulled over and I got a ticket. Now its gonna cost me a good $300-400 once I finish paying for the ticket and traffic school to get it removed from my record.

Now I am in no way condoning my actions, although it may sound like it. I know that, *rolls eyes, I did a wrong thing and now I'm paying the consequences. But it does irk me that the first time I get pulled over I get a ticket and not to mention there are never cops there in the morning and I haven't seen a cop on that road since and I drive that road every day to work. I learned my lesson and I don't speed (much) anymore. Anyway that kinda turned into a rant but I had to get it off my chest. (You didn't have to read it anyway... :thumbup

Everyone gets speeding tickets, even cops. However, most will extend a professional courtesy and let them slide, but I have heard of cops getting speeding tickets. Not sure what the big deal is, it's just a speeding ticket. Some of you guys post like it's the end of the world or something. Yeah, it's expensive, but if you don't want to get tickets, don't go so fast. I have had my share of speeding tickets in other states, oh, say about 20. Not once have I contested in court, or try to explain why I was speeding. I just want my ticket so I can continue on even faster since I have to make up for lost time and I'll send them the money through the mail. I have been lucky and have gotten numerous courtesy warnings to slow down, but thats after they searched every inch of my vehicle, including the dog.

enough speeding tickets means a suspended license. Ride/drive on a suspended license - don't drop the soap.

If you saw it you would agree, as a matter of fact, I'm sure that's exactly why they were there.
It's predatory, and that's what I hate more than the ticket itself. Cops hiding on crests, or places that they know people speed due to road conditions is not just unfair. Their job is to ensure safe vehicle operation, not to plunder my pocket.

Well, congress is thinking about going back to the 55mph speed limit nationwide. Going 55 mph on many stretch of highways, especially out west woulld be ridiculous.

I find myself chuckling at times when I see a police cruiser hiding in a real good spot. What I don't agree are the agencies that allow cops to park alongside or in the median of the highway in total darkness. They should at least have their parking lights on.

Try I-10 between El Paso and San Antonio Tx. The posted speed limit is 80mph on certain stretches and to go back to 55mph, it will be a money maker for the state as the troopers will have a field day.

Try CA Interstate 5 for much of the route north of LA. A 55 mph speed limit would be torture that would break even Jack Bauer of TV's "24" series. The limit s/b, say, 100 mph in some stretches. I know, this probably sounds conservative, too slow to some (like those accustomed to Germany's autobahns). Many/most motorists already cruise around 75-80 mph even though max speed limit is 70mph.

:Sport:Once again, on my way to work, I had another opportunity to test my local theory that the cops on motorcycles are in general, biker friendly and will not give out tickets, unless you are doing something really stupid.

So as I merged onto the freeway, and work my way across the five lanes of traffic to get into that golden empty HOV lane which is extra wide, I noticed a motorcycle cop ahead in the far lane to the right of the HOV lane. Of course, the traffic is all backed up and is afraid to pass the cop. To my surprise, there was nothing but pavement ahead of me in that lane so I was gaining on the cop pretty quick. I looked at my speedo which does not have a speedo healer, which indicated 77mph, in a 60mph zone. As I started to approach, the cop put on his emergency lights on and started weaving in and out of my lane, in a continuous motion back and forth, into my lane and his. It was a clear indication to me that he wanted me to slow down, and not to pass him . This is the first time I can ever recall that I was unable to pull away from a cop and the flow of traffic behind him. I felt such a dork playing the "oh it's a cop" don't pass him. A friend of mine was riding his new R6 out of town and got pulled over doing 90 in a 25. It wasn't pretty.

I've seen something similar in the San Francisco Bay Area. Two cops were weaving back & forth across a five lane highway slowing the traffic to about 15mph. I was one of the first cars behind the cops so I had a good view of the highway workers way up ahead that were frantically dragging a couch and some other stuff off the road that must have fallen off a truck. Maybe your cop was doing something similar.

I think I'm going to fight it, I have a clean record so it might work. They do offer the classes to wipe it off, but the class is $100, and the ticket is $80. Total racket.

here in NY we just write letters to the DA its not as good as a parking ticket, but they will reduce it to a failure to yield a traffic device... Of course the clean prior record is a big help! As far as the speed you were clocked at... they were doing their job...It may be a speed trap, however they are just following orders.. or possibly have a grudge against that part of the road.. This past semester when I was in Texas I went through Brenham and got a 71 in a 60. Speed went from 70-60 and I missed the sign. That is a pure speed trap place... I think I was pulled over for a full 8 mins.. it was a written out ticket... Here in NY you are there for awhile and they hand you a printed out ticket..... put it this way my 71 in a 60 was $180, NY doesn't record out of state Speeding violations unless you have a CDL. Wasn't worth my time or energy to fight it but. Best of luck... I don't agree with many speed limits but they are the way they are... There are a few places that are pretty crazy such as going around Atlanta.... speed limit goes down to 40mph at one point i believe and it is 4 lanes each way... I was in the way at 75mph.... Austin, Tx is just as bad I was in the way at 80 there that was heading from Austin to San Marcos slowed back down a few miles outside of Austin.... My job is really gonna suck if they change the speed limit to 55mph nationwide, I enjoy those 70mph interstates, usually set the cruise at 76-77. As far as Mississippi I had to work at Mississippi State in Starkville, Was on a smaller 2 lane highway somewhere close by and was in the right lane with the cruise set at 77mph. Cop went by me like I was sitting still, have been there 3 times happens every time. Was thinking bout seeing where the XB shuts off but with my luck if i tried that, one would be there and I would be in deep doodoo...

This isn't meant to sound like a sexist comment however I'm sure it will be taken that way, but I have never heard of a female officer letting anyone off for anything! The few that are around here are 10 times tougher then the guys. Its like they feel they have to prove themselves or something... One is Sheriff, and other is a Trooper.

have at it......lol. The thing that drives me nuts is when people see a cop they slow down to well below the speed limit. If your that afraid of getting pulled over set your cruise 1mph below the speed limit down slam on your breaks and do 10 under.....
