Yamaha M1... what are these?

I have seen a similar one(near the rear shock) on my friend's BMW S1000R - it looked like a sensor for the semi-active suspension, although that looked like a fixed unit, not the telescopic looking thing on the M1. This one might be used to sense suspension travel?

I used to believe they were some kind of brake lines, the above pictures make it clear now. Thanks.
