Yamaha has released details of its forthcoming FZ8 and Fazer8 models, the high spec all-rounders it's slotting between the one-litre FZ1/Fazer 1000 and 600cc FZ6/Fazer 600 models.

Interesting that it really isn't that much more hp than the FZ6. More torque down low which is cool. Looks very nice also.

When I checked the specs it said the faired version would be 215 kg which is 474 lbs! That seems kind of heavy. How much does the FZ6 weigh again?

I still reckon it's fat, needs more HP, better suspenders, and is generally much less than what it could of been....

:(

Am sure it will be great to ride...but 800cc, and only 100ps...that dissapoints me lots!

Nice bike this FZ8, but I like better the FZ6... or the FZ1! :D

In fact, I think Yamaha wants to fill the gap between 600cc and 1000cc, and then competes with the K*W*S*KI 750cc on the European market where this last one is on top of sales... Yamaha designed the FZ8 very quickly for the major part FROM the FZ1. IMHO, it's only a "gap filling". This bike, at first glance, doesn't have its "own personnality"... The FZ6 has its one; the FZ1 has its one...
At first sight you recognize the FZ1 or the FZ6. The FZ8 is a average bike. It has something from the FZ1 on the down side and something of the FZ6 on the up side, less the exhaust under the seat :( . But nothing by itself. I feel it's a marketing bike, nothing more.
Don't take me wrong: I don't say it's a bad bike, but IMHO not such a interesting bike. Sometimes the market decides, and maybe Yamaha has made a good choice by releasing the FZ8. The future will tell...

Apart this, some say that in the next year(s) Yamaha could stop manufacturing the FZ6 to the profit of the FZ8... May it be true?

Anyway enjoy your FZ6!
Cheers,
Gobs

FZ6:
Wet weight: 458lbs/208kg
HP: 90
Torque: 40ft.lb
Displacement: 600cc
Suspension: preload only, normal forks

FZ8:
Wet weight: 475lbs/211kg
HP: 105
Torque: 60ft.lb
Displacement: 779cc
Suspension: preload only, USD

So, to sum it up, for 179cc more (30%), you get 15% more HP, and 50% more torque for about the same weight machine.

What more did you expect exactly? Less weight with 100% more torque and 30 more HP and fully adjustable suspension for cheaper than the FZ6? :BLAA:

Let's be real....

david, i see your point. and it's a good point. but for me i guess i think of it being somewhere in the gxsr 750 market. and when you look at the fact that the gxsr has about 130 hp at the wheel, the 100 hp from the fz8 is a little disappointing.

now the numbers i found on the fz1 and it looks to have about 130 at the rear wheel also. so i wouldn't expect those numbers from the fz8. but i did expect more than 105.

regardless, i probably won't buy it. simply because i don't have the cash and like what i have and will most likely ride it into the ground.

It means absolutely nothing for street riding...

The GSXR750 has the same peak torque as the FZ6... the FZ8 has 50% more torque than both these bikes... torque is the PULL you feel when you open the throttle... the more torque, the more PULL... so the FZ8 will PULL harder than the GSXR750 or the FZ6 by 50%, which is what you will actually FEEL when you turn the throttle on.

HP is a measure of torque over time, so to simplify it a lot, what this means is that LOTS of HP with average torque = average pull, but for a long long time... or in other words, the GSXR750 won't pull as hard as the FZ8, but will do so for much longer... which makes total sense since the gixxer is effectively a race machine, not meant to be ridden on the streets... so you want the high HP numbers because you will need the bike to keep pulling after 130mph... and it will keep pulling after 130, 140, 150mph...etc, even though your FZ8 died out a long time ago...

But for the streets, you need TORQUE, not HP... you don't need your street bike to keep pulling after 130mph do you? You need all the pull you can get from 0-100mph, which is where the FZ8 will w00p *ss, because it was designed for that purpose.

You tried a Harley not too long ago... it had what, 60HP? but it felt like a rocket off the line right? It's because it has lots of torque up to 100mph, and then there's nothing left (but who cares)...

Just my opinion.

david. i do agree with you. i might not have made my point too well. i agree that torque is fun. and it's great that it has in increase that will be noticeable. one of the first things i did when looking at the torque numbers is look back to the sportster numbers that i rode last year. pretty comparable. and from that, i'm guessing it's going to be pretty fun.

having all that out there... i expected more hp. not that it's needed... i just expected more. and i think plenty of people will be expecting more. is it wrong to expect more? :don'tknow: just sharing what i thought and expected. but i'm also one that expected the undertail exhaust and would have liked it to weigh less.

too bad yamaha didn't ask me how they should build it since i wasn't going to get one anyway. :D

So even though the HP number doesn't relate to anything tangible when it comes to the real life experience of riding, you still want to see a bigger number just because you decided so...

Damn these marketing guys did their job well! We've all been brain washed :)
