Im new to the site and mods, I just bought a garmin zumo 550 and wanted to know if i should just wire the included motorcycle wire directly to the battery? thanks

It's a good way if you want it permanently wired. If it doesn't have a built in fuse already I would wire one to it.
The only problem would be if you wanted to remove the wire, you'd have to lift up the tank and such.

The best way to do this is to add a socket to the bike with a fuse wired in. It is not difficult and there are lots of threads.
They are basically all the same but we positiion the socket in different places. Some drill into the fairings to fit the socket.
I wired in a cigarette socket and it sits under my seat. My GPS power lead comes from the socket, under the tank and up through the gap in front of the tank where the two tank securing bolts are. My batterytender connector comes up through the same gap. They have been there for 2 years and are out of the way.
Having it set up like this I can remove the GPS when I am not riding and the power lead tucks out of the way.
Here s are 2 variations ,Do a search for "12V socket" for others.

Although a standard 12V socket would work fine, I've done this a lot in the past and found it can work loose on long trips (Powerlet seems to hold much better if you want a socket of some sort).
I just soldered on an SAE plug (that 2-pronged plug you see on trailer wiring - available at any auto parts store) to the end of the bare wires that come with the Zumo connector. Since I already have a battery tender wired to the battery (which has an SAE plug on the end), I just plug my zumo into the SAE plug for that. I also have a small air compressor that came with an SAE plug, so I can plug that on instead if needed. My battery tender plug runs from the battery to underneath the seat (with an extension piece) and the zumo easily reaches from the handlebars to the seat. I lift the seat and connect up things as needed (battery tender/GPS/compressor - you'll never need all of these things at once!).
BE CAREFUL if you do this though. Make sure you wire it so the red wire from the Zumo ultimately leads to the + on the battery. Makes sense, but I've seen this done backwards before.
