I am at the end of my first season with my first bike, and I an already thinking about what I need to do to store for the winter. it will be in a garage, but I hear lots of opinions about the fuel (full tank, empty tank) cylinders (oil in the spark plug hole), etc.

What do you do?

Hate to think about winter already, but here's what I do:

Full tank w/fuel stabilizer
Fill the tires with air
battery tender
wash and wax
oil and lube the moving parts
clean and lube the chain
store in un-heated garage, use full m/c cover
use center stand

In spring I change filter and oil

Don't put a drop of oil in the spark plug hole and crank it a bit

I personally have just changed my oil with a stabilizer, put a fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank (usually half tank), hook up the battery tender.

Beyond that, I make sure to start her up every 3-5 weeks to warm up the oil and burn off any moisture that may have accumulated.

with all my bikes (except dirtbikes):

full tank of gas w/ stabilizer
change oil and filter
wash and wax
oil cables and moving parts
cover it
either take out battery or just hook it up to a battery tender
i dont bother with the oil for the plugs
i take two supermarket trash bags and stuff the end of the exhausts hole
fill up tires to 35psi
lift both tires off the ground

You should change the oil before storing. The oil actually goes acidic as it is used, and can cause problems with the internals. That and it's one less thing to do in the Spring when all you want to do is ride.

You're better off just leaving it be. Moisture won't accumulate much, if any, while it's sitting. You'll also want to FILL the tank. This keeps moisture out of the tank, preventing/minimizing rust.
