Where to mound HID ballast?

So, for everyone who's done a HID conversion...where did you mount the ballast? I've had this project on hold (everything's fabbed and ready to install, I just haven't gotten around to it) because I can't figure out a good location and method of mounting the ballast.


The empty space under the tank is out, since that's where my alarm and LoJack sit.

Under the seat is out also, since there are alarm components there too (the wires wouldn't reach, anyway).



So...behind the cowling somewhere? How would one mount it without cutting up the cowl a lot?

Use double stick tape or bend up some brackets out of flat aluminium so you can use existing screws.

When I did mine, I used a combo of double stick tape and industrial grade velcro strips on the insides of the fairings on both sides. This worked great and allowed me to shorten the wires a lot too.

Both on the inside of the front fairing with brackets/tape.
