Massive cyclone bears down on Australia - World - Canoe.ca

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, you're about to get walloped by a potential category 4 cyclone. From what I've been reading Queensland and other parts of Australia were just starting to recover from the floods, and are now expected to bear the brunt of a cyclone that could penetrate up to 900km's inland. :eek:

Keep your heads down guys. Thinking how lucky we are in cold, cold Canada right now. Good luck!
 
Wow, amazing how stuff like this can really put your own situation in perspective. We are under a blizzard warning in Michigan and expect 12 to 18 inches(30 to 46 cm) of snow in about 20 hours along with 30 mph(48kph) winds.
After reading what is heading toward our friends I feel silly for even having been worried about it. I don't get religious, cause just like your bike your beliefs are unique to each person, but I will be praying for all our Aussie friends and there families.

May tomorrow bring a better day, one that finds you with your health, your family, and a warm bed to lay your head.

Alot of the areas have been evacuated since Australia seems to be woefully underprepared for any kind of natural disaster, no matter how predictable.
 
It is now upgraded to cat 5.
I use to live in Townsville QLD. I was there when the big cyclone hit Innisfail. I pass the area a about a month after the cyclone hits. The amount of destruction is unbelievable :eek: . Even after a few months you can still see it clearly.
Looks like it will hit the same area again.
 
Yeah she has been upgraded to a Cat 5 this morning & they say it could still intensify :eek:.... We have a couple of forum members in the path so i'll try & keep you all posted , fingers crossed they will be OK & out of harms way...

Cairns is an amazing place - we had a wonderful holiday there 2 years ago. I absolutely love the place. Unfortunately, they will get the brunt of the cyclone.

They are now predicting Cat 5, and that it could be the biggest Tropical Cyclone ever.....

Good luck for what's heading your way Down Under. Will be sincerely hoping the destruction is the minimal amount possible and that everyone is safe. Mother Nature is not a happy bunny this year....
 
This cyclone looks so incredibly bad :(

Been keeping updated on it all day, just seems to get worse. Words could not describe how I would feel if i lived in its path.

My thoughts are with those affected!
 
Just re-read Humperdinkles post with the link in it. Where are you guys gonna fit up to another metre of rain?!? :eek:

It's amazing how many disasters have happened recently, from Haiti this time last year, to you guys now... Brutal :(
 
Its a bit scary hearing about all these people not evacuating, hopefully they aren't near the centre of the storm!
290km/h winds unless you have an underground bunker..... scary stuff.

All these stories of people staying at home to try and protect their belongings.... just have to hope its not a strategy that backfires, otherwise the floods could end up looking pretty negligable.
 
Some good news of sorts, the Cyclone has now been downgraded to a category 3...still very violent, but no-where near as nasty as a category 5!

The winds are still extremely destructive, but not anywhere near a category 5!

So far, damage levels are nowhere near what was expected...so far.

It is still early days yet.

All cyclones slowly weaken as the move inland but she still crossed the coast at Midnight at a Cat 5......

Buy your Banana's today people while you still can coz they are all gone :( Mango's gone :( Sugar decimated :(

Now I hope it weakens fast coz we have close friends in Mt Isa :(
 
Relatively good news so far. Heaps of damage (as you would expect), but they are now saying it's downgraded to Cat 2. No reports of loss of life or major injuries.

About time you Qld'ers got some luck.

As for the bananas Humpy, someone else can have my share, I ate that many of them when I found out about my HypoKalaemia that I can't bear to see them any more...lol

Stay safe up there mate.

I'll do my best to eat them all for you Dave , havent had a good Banana cake for ages :)

Staying safe but waiting for the rains to hit :( like we really need more of that :spank:
