Well the kms. are low and the price seems fair...if cosmeticly it looks good, then take it out to open road and ride it like you stold it..! this will mostly show the condition of what you can't see.... these bikes are almost indestructable...most versatile bike I've ever owned and I've had lots.. Also I believe 2007 had the updates in... just take your time and follow your gut feeling...PS. don't take your GF. ( the colour might not be right ) ...here comes the kickbacks...Daryl

in my eyes a bad deal.. i payed 5k otd for a used 2009 with 2xx miles... from a dealership... maybe i got spoiled

Doesn't sound too bad to me. I just bought an 05 with a little over 4k miles for $3600. Blue book on an 07 in my zip code is $4885. This assumes excellent condition. Mine was $3600. The 07 you're looking at is $4300. The 08 Oblinox got was $5k. It averages out to about $350 more for each newer year. Seems reasonable to me. The best thing to do it check around craigslist and autotrader.com to see what similar bikes in the area are going for. With that kind of milage, there really shouldn't be anything mechanically wrong with the bike. Look it over and see what kind of shape it's in cosmetically. Ask the current owner about maintenance; last oil change, chain adjustment/lube, etc. I'd say offer $3800 and go from there. I once heard that when buying a car/bike/etc, if you're not embarrased by your first offer, then you aren't starting low enough.

That's a really good point. If they have receipts that's great. If not, check the sprocket/chain for rust and signs of neglict. This is a good indicator of the overall maintence conciousness of the owner. At 4k miles it should have the 600m service at minimum. The chain should have no evidence of rust on it at all. 4.3k for a '07 with 4k miles seems like a fair deal to me.. 5k for a new '09 is really crazy cheap. That's not a normal deal.

well i am going to go look at it this weekend on sat, and i wish i could get the 08or 09 blues but price jump is really high just for a diffrent color.i have been looking around for a while now and dont find nothing, I live in The bay area in CA and all the 08 and 09 here are like 5,500 used with a couple of miles on them already . and i know what you are saying about the price i dont wont pay more then 4k for it thats for sure.if i do i will be loosing alot of money on resale value now that they stoped making them.thats the reasson i want an 07 is because when i sell it i would proubly get have at what i bought it and if i buy an 09 or 08 i will loose more money just my thought

$4300 sounds a bit steep - but not a terrible deal still...convict has some good advice though with if you're not embarrased by your first offer, then you aren't starting low enough.

Always make an offer a few hundred lower than what you actually are willing to pay. This gives you room to go up. This guy tryin to get rid of his fz6 sounds like he did the same thing, but vice versa. When you sell your vehicle, always ask a few hundred more than what you are willing to sell it for - to give leeway and come down.

Offer him $3,750 and when he says $4,200 - meet him half way at $4,000.

Just my two cents. Sounds like a good deal though. Other than that they are very solid, durable bike. You should really know and feel if something is wrong on it.

Tires, even if they have plenty of tread, the life of a tire is about 3 years. They start to lose it's grip. Good set of tires will set you back about $3-400USD.

Tires will have a manufacture date stamp. Example on my Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's, It's 2009, meaning it was made on the 20th week in the year 2009.

Plus always check tire pressure before you ride. If it's sitting for a while, chances are it will need air.

Make sure the chain and sprocket looks well maintained.

Ask if it's still the stock battery. New battery will cost from $60-$100 plus.

Ask if it has ever been dropped, crashed etc.

You can buy a new one for $5399 in panama city fl. Used ones never bring over $2500 on ebay no matter the year or miles. Got my 2006 with 10k for 2300 off craigs list.

well i looked at the bike this sat, and well the pic looked alot better, mechanically the bike looks the be in good shape, but i found some deep scratch in the left hand corner by the headlight. and some minor ones in the rear by the passenger, and a missing screw in the side rediator cover, it looks like it was droped at one point. The owner claims it was never droped, but the evidence is there. The right mirror is scratched and on the bottom of the foot pegs "passenger and driver" there is little scrathes on them and by the handle bar too, this is all in the right side. they are minor it looks like it was maybe in the drive way or something. So what do you guys think i should offer this guy.? My wife dont really like the color and said that i should just go buy a new 09 with 0 miles and with my favorite color. The overal is in OK condition cosmetic only, the good thing is that it also comes with an extended warranty from yamaha till 2012.

For that starting price, I'd expect the bike to be in excellent cosmetic shape. With the damage, even if it's minimal and only knocked over rather than crashed, I'd definitely start lower. Given the prices I've seen on other bikes when I was looking for mine, I wouldn't go over $3500 and then only if everything else on the bike is near mint condition. Honestly, I'd move on to another bike. At that price, you should be able to find one that doesn't have the damage.

No question... it was dropped. Don't pay any more than low $3Ks. You may even let him sweat it out for a few more days or even weeks. No one is going to swoop in and pay asking for a damaged bike. I'd consider looking at a new one since the option is out there. In my experience, if the lady says "go to the dealer and pick out a new one", you go NOW before she changes her mind. But be prepared for the balance purchase.... jewelry, new outfits, vacations.... Good luck!

I agree with your wife.. Get the new 09 if you can afford it. :) I wouldn't buy the other bike from how you described it.

What you said about these bikes being nearly indestructible.....a friend of mine who was a professional Yamaha mechanic said the same thing. He said that the engines were practically bullet proof. (He also said the worst thing you could do is give them throttle while cranking on them. He said not to do that - ever! To just let them start all by themselves. He told me the only repair work that he had ever done on Fazers was where a guy had "blown the injectors out of it" by giving it gas while cranking it over)

thanks for all the feedback guys. The problem is that for some reasson here in the Bay Area all the bikes are going for like 4500 and up the ones that are going for under 4k are with more then 10k miles on them and im not looking to get a bike with that many miles. How do you post pic so I can show you guys the used bike i saw this weekend?

I have this exact bike, 2007, blue, etc. bought recently..$3900 with 600mi., showroom mint condition. It sure seems to be bulletproof so far.

well the deal did not go through , he did not wanted to go lower then 4k. I offered him $3700 and i was not going to pay more then that. he said no so the deal was off. well now i have to wait a while to earn like $700 so i can have a total of 6k. I think with 6k i could get a new one at a dealer OTD what do you guys think?
