What Classes Are Our Bikes

I've thought of it as a "traditional" or "standard" given its upright riding position. I've seen a few reviews of it that put it into that category. Those articles were lamenting how that segment of the motorcycles market is so miniscule in the US, with nearly all sales being cruisers or sport bikes, even though standard styles are really all-round better machines for what most people actually use them for. Thus, there are hardly any choices in that segment in the US, whereas there are many options in Europe.

That is soo true about the US. I lived in europe a few years. Most people down here just buy a Super Street because thats the only vision they have of bikes (those and Cruisers). They think it looks cool and goes way fast. I have a few buddies who have R6's and never heard of the FZ6...after trying it they all like the FZ6 better for the riding position, plus the power is easier to handle (avail in low-mid range) They assumed a bike like the FZ6 is slower than a R6 but in reality the gap is not that big and it comes down to the rider. Sure in full throttle or curves the R6 wins but not by much...Then it depends what you use the bike for

When people ask me I call it a street bike. That's also what the guy in the showroom called it.

I call it a sport-touring bike. The wife calls it a crotch-rocket. I never liked that term. For the US I don't think naked applies to the FZ. When I think naked I think of bikes like the Monster or the Speed Triple, ie: no fairing at all.

I guess you could call it a standard too, however I think more of a traditional Japanese bike, like the old, GS, CB, KZ, XS, etc.

All I know is I really love my FZ because it does it all, tour, commute and track, all while looking damn good! :thumbup:

I don't like that one either, not sure why. How about just, "the FZ"?

I always cringe when I hear that! Absolutely hate that term. :thumbup:
