I am planning on riding to the WEST COAST! the first week of August. I would be leaving the evening of July 31 and doing a Saddlesore 1000 to start out heading to Albequerque, NM.

If any of you live at any of the night stops (marked by letters on the map link) please contact me if you would be willing to offer a bed (or couch) to help me save some coin.

Hopefully I can meet up with several of you.

No bed to offer here, but I'd be up for some riding if you're around LA on a Saturday :)

Good luck with the trip.

Congrats, Krid80!! I am so excited for you, finally getting to go on your trip.
What time are you leaving July 31st? Maybe some of the St Louis FZ riders can escort you out of town??? :cheer:

Hotels are dirt cheap here in Vegas, especially that time of year. It will be toasty, like a dry sauna so you are warned.

When will you be in Vegas, maybe the 2nd or 3rd of August? PM me when you get close. Heck, I may ride to LA with you.

July 30th 5pm I leave home.

This is the route to Vegas

That will be a tough 3 day (and a tiny bit) ride....even for the LoneSoldier. :) Might be closer to the 3rd.

Regarding the camping, I'm talking out of my you-know-what. The first time I ever camp in my life will be on that trip. I have no budget for more than a handful of hotel stays. Plus, it adds to the adventure aspect of it all.

To state the obvious but in the hopes of verifying it, the Grand Canyon is located in the Grand Canyon National Park.....right?

Wondering why it's all interstate? Are you pressed for time? Cause you'll be missing alot of great roads out here.

It is definitely a time issue and I know I will be missing alot, but I have never been to Arizona (other than the airport) Utah, California, or Wyoming and by my map below, have several states still to hit on the bike. I am trying to be gone no more than 11 days. Plus, if I see something, I can stop if I know I am making good time.

Depending, I may spend an extra day in LV to wait on you Lone. I hear we have a tour guide among us (hint hint Vegasrider)

Oh, that wasn't intended for me.

Haha, self-centred much? Yes, please.

But I will crack that throttle wide open for ya on the way there Krid. (even if it means outrunning them coppers!!)

Disclaimer: Running from the police is a serious offence that is dangerous both to the rider and civilian traffic that happens to be present. The FZ6 forum in no way condones such behaviour, and neither does LoneSoldier84.

That is a long way down.... so you are likely not going to get into Vegas until Aug 3rd? 4th?

What were you thinking? I'm wanting to go straight from STL to Albuquerque NM (just above 1000 miles).

The return trip will see me north through California and through Oregon etc.

I have not yet done a detailed road by road assessment of distance and time yet and just have a general sense of the approach vectors to Las Vegas. I know I want to take the scenic route, but I know I want to take some slab shortcuts now and again to prevent taking more than 4 days or so to get to Vegas. The absolute latest I want to be in Vegas is the 4th. But I will shoot for early in the day on the 3rd and if I can make it by end of day on the 2nd I will have made great time.

The reason it will be tough getting there too early is that it seems many of the miles on the way there will see my average speed drop to less than my typical highway speeds due to the windy nature of the road.

This thing is kind of funny though. A Lonesoldier leaves Edmonton headed to Las Vegas at 140kph. A Krid leaves Festus headed to Las Vegas at 130kph. How much sooner does Krid arrive in Las Vegas if there is a headwind of 20kph?
