Trying to Legalize Bike... Need parts info?

So I bought my new 2006 FZ6 a couple weeks ago and (due to lack of knowledge at that point) found out that it has non-DOT approved headlights and a front end all that sort of jazz. I guess at this point, I'm looking to know what I should look for online to replace it with correct parts.

The mods made it look kiiiind of like a street fighter but almost just. I was wondering if someone could tell me what parts would make it look stock again, or what I could do to replace the ones that have been found to be "out of inspection regs and/or street illegal"

DOT doesn't "approve" anything. Parts just have to be compliant with its standards. Who exactly said that and can you circumvent them?

They had told me that because it doesn't have any of the DOT info on it that it wouldn't pass inspection or something like that. I live in VA so I have to comply with that, but i'm not entirely sure what the specifics are. But the real issue is that I don't have headlights that work and/or fit in the headlight cause the guy I bought it from changed all the front-age.

Sounds like WV is very similar to Maine. They are adamant about their inspections and would not pass a non-DOT compliant headlight (Such as the older style Acerbis Cyclops for example).

Are you looking to go back to stock or just find a suitable replacement to appease the inspectors?

No inspections in TN. :thumbup: Just emissions check for cagers.

From what I understand, you can register a quad for street use in NJ. Im guessing adding lights and the required stuff. One of the guys at work is looking into it.

If it has the Circle E symbol for european compliance, you might be able to look up their standard and hopefully it exceeds the DOT.

okay sure, I'll get some pictures up here. I'm not too partial to one or the other, it seems like making it look stock again would be expensive. I could just change out the headlight and I'd be good, but i'm not sure what to look for.

The guy i bought it from did all this bs electrical work and now i can't find half the plugs for where the lights should go and they don't fit anyway, like he glued the light in and it started melting, lol...

Many of the important parts will have DOT stamps. Use RonAyers.com to find OEM parts. Many but not all aftermarket parts will also have DOT. Many sites list if a given part is DOT approved if you need to buy something.

late to the party, but first get yourself the damn service manual.. this way you know what the hell your looking at.. otherwise, just make sure you do a one over on EVERYTHING, because when you hit 90 that first time and everything is still cool, you'll be very thankful someone mentioned that...good luck
