The problem I have with these is what happens on a dark highway with headlights facing you? Kind of hard to see at night with the tint darkening.

I think it would be fine with oncoming headlamps and you would need more intense light to change it that quickly.

I know a few people with transitional eyeglasses that work fine in night driving.

The tint is activated by UV light which the sun is full of. Automotive headlamps, even HIDs, do not pass UV light through their UV-shield.

Pinlock makes a similar self-tinting shield, but it's not available in the US...

Plus, like Moto said, it doesn't work *that* fast. It's photochromatic, not an auto-darkening welding shield. Even in sunlight it takes a few seconds.

I wear my smoked sheild day and night now,I fine the tint is good in the day light but at night it really cuts the glare from a cages headlights!! I maybe a fool but it works for me...:BLAA:

Y'all is crazy, man.

I started out with a crappy old Arai from a pawn shop. I hated riding at night, couldn't see squat. I finally got sick of the little scratches in the shield and bought a new one... and found out I'd been riding around with a light smoke shield the whole time. I could barely tell the old one was tinted, but man, that clear shield made a HUGE difference at night!

I'd need a stupidly dark shield to ride without shades most of the time... and half the time I ride with my shield up during the hot months, unless I'm flying. I ride through too many splotchy areas, and am too lazy to carry a spare clear shield, for all that noise.

I have a scorpion exo500 with the built in sun visor but I just got a mirrored main shield for it, I like it so far but we'll see how it goes. Sometimes the internal visor just isn't dark enough for me.

They make a darker sun visor for them. I threw one of them in my EXO1000, but it's still not dark enough for me, either. I was kinda disappointed, since that was a lot of why I went with the helmet. I also don't like how much room it leaves under my eyes and over my nose, it's easy to get bright sun in my eyes if I look up.

I ended up still wearing shades during the day. Works for me, they're dark enough, I wear them anyway when I get where I'm going so I don't have to find a safe pocket for them, and they give me some eye pro when I ride with my shield up. FWIW, I've tried on a helmet with a photochromatic shield, and didn't think that was dark enough for my taste. Bummer, it would be nice sometimes to not have to try to get my shades on or off with one hand while riding.

It's shiete. By the end of my 2k mile trip in Canada, the visor was all scratched up from the god damn millions of bugs that splattered all over me.

I will never buy mirror finish, don't get me wrong it's tons better than smoked shield but it just doesn't stand up to a lot of use.

My helmet looks so good in person, that I went out today and got the transition lens.:thumbup: This thing works very well.:cheer:

I can't see why Shoei doesn't have this system.

I had the Bell auto darkening visor. It worked, but only for about a week. After that it was just kind of dim...

I have a Bell Vortex Flying Tiger (which I've never seen anyone else wearing) with clear, dark smoke and the blue iridium. I ride with the blue shield most of the time and bring the clear if I think I'll be riding after sunset. Thought about the transition but these Bell's are so easy to switch shields I can buy several normal ones for the price of the transition. I love my blue iridium.
