Tire Watch...what do ya's reckon?

Hi Everyone, have been toying with the idea of getting one of these fitted to my bike.

it's called a "Tire Watch". It is a wireless tire pressure, tire temperature monitor, that gives you constant pressure & temperature reading's.

I think it is primarily devided for racing use, but i can see distinct advantages of using on a street bike.

Would definitely extend tire life, and help prevent
feathering, and would also be a key safety feature re maintaining desired grip levels, if you paid head to the reading's and kept your tires at the correct pressures.

My interest has been sparked by the fact that during the hot Aussie summer, my tire pressure needs more vigilant attention.

Is reasonably pricey at $349 Australian, but i also see other advantages, such as fuel economy too.

Thoughts?

Do your tires change pressure after every ride? Mine may loose a little (a pound or two) every few weeks so thats about how often I check em'.
This seems to be true of all my bikes.

I am old school and combine a visual check of tires etc, while checking air pressure.

Not sure how it would help your fuel economy as I think that is a wrist thing more than tire pressure. (I have a big wrist problem but that leads to big grins).

However if you install this unit, I would really like to hear your feed back.

At first i thought it was a bit of an extravagence, but recently, i have been doing a lot more Sports riding, and have noticed that in the hot weather, front tire pressure especially can drop quite appreciably on a long ride of say 250km's, to 350km's, and it definitely affects handling. If the tire pressure drops while in the twisties, and i can see that it is happening, i reckon i might slow down till at least the next petrol stop, rather than pushing on regardless.

This has to be a good thing.

The group i ride with regular ride 200 plus km's between stops, mostly in the twisties, and have noticed the change in handling as we ride further...last weekend i noticed that my handling changing a lot the further we rode, and when i stopped for petrol, the pressure in my front had dropped 6psi, and the front tire was pretty warm.

It's not a leak, as when i ride around the city at lower speeds, i do not lose anymore than 1or 2 psi over the same distance.

Am thinking it is a combination of having Pilot Power 2ct's on the bike, which get quite warm, as they are quite soft, combined with the hot roads...it is now the height of summer here, and regular daily temperatures are hovering in the mid to high 30's celcius.

So if those tires are getting a bit too hot, and the pressure is dropping, i want to know definitively, i reckon.

Anyway, if i get one of these things, i will report back re the results.

If anything, it's just another way of helping me to understand yet another lot of parameters that affect the bikes handling, more definitively.

As i get older, i am definitely getting more analytical re what's happening underneath me, rather than just getting on and riding, and riding around the way the bike is running.

I think more than anything, i am looking for more control over controllable issues whilst riding my pride and joy.

Very nice gadget, I suspect there is an underlying need for you to get it. Wait a second what is is, oh yeah, you are a Mod ho lol.

No stress buddy, you were not to know, don't really make a habit of sharing my personal details on a forum! I like the "mod ho" tag though, might have to change my profile thingo to that!
 
That is a neat little gadget. Sure beats having to get a tire guage out and check once a week or so, I'm getting old and lazy I suppose. It would be really handy on the track to for helping dial in the correct pressure for the day.

My GMC truck has them and it is nice to push a button to know the pressure. What I have noticed is that the system on the truck, my pencil tire guage and my dial tire guage all give me three different reads. Hummm...

Sorry to hear about the missus Jamie. CF wheels now?
 
$250 for a pretty slick little gadget, or get my knee and fingers dirty checking pressure with my $3 gauge...
I'll take the gauge. Still, as sweet as that bike of yours is (due to your affliction lol) what's another toy...? I'd say go for it and throw a review on here to see what you think... Sounds cool, but too rich for my blood...
 
My tires don't seem to vary a lot from day to day. I check pretty regularly but have only had to put air into my fronts 3 times in nearly 24,000km.

The rear has never been wrong.

I ride at 34/38. I check cold before I leave the house.Of course I don't keep tires very long though....lol.

If you're having an issue then it sounds like a pretty groovy way to keep an eye on things. be interesting to see how long it takes to get them up to temp at different times of year etc.

Go on...lol...you know you want to...PMSL.:thumbup::D

I will probably do it....might just have to wait 3 months to get it...nothing you order in Oz get's to you quickly...i have about 5 "toys" on back order! One day i will sell the bike, and most of them will arrive about 6 months later!
