tire tread separation imminent ?

My natural inclination would be to take that tire to a tire dealer that sells and installs those and ask them. Does that pattern continue all the way around the tread? What brand and type tire is that?

I had the same line around my Pilot Powers, never had an issue. I suspect it is a mold parting line from when the tire was made.

interesting. i'll forward some pictures to the factory if it's possible. thing is, i ddn't notice the line before the ride, then 100 or so miles later it was easily seen. the tires are better than 1/2 way worn, most by a previous owner. 30K on the bike.
also... the %&*@(#$% axle was installed by a *&^%$ gorilla, i've been working on it with heat, beat, and penetrating oil since 8am. it's not budging. wow.
of course, after having to use a ^&*(^%$ impact wrench to remove the oil plug, i'm not surprised.

From the looks of the tire tread pattern, it's a Michellin, as I run them exclusivley on my bike.
My question to you, how old are these tires? The amount of tread remaining could be half way, but the real question, how old?
Check the sidewall, it should contain a four digit number, IE 2109 meaning manufactured on the 21st week of 2009. FWIW, I experience similiar cracking from time to time, but at the very end of the tire life.
Check out my review in the tire tech forum, I post pictures of my tires before every replacement.

I have a simular line around my BT023 rear and it's near end of life but I noticed the line quite a while ago, I agree that it looks to be a mould line.

the tdate was 4607, so they were very old. I. usually preride check, and didn't notice the line then. during the ride we stopped for the smokers, and I noticed it. changed it yesterday to the new diablo that was waiting. handles smoother, with a faster turn in.
after googling it appears to be normal, but the date code gave me shivers. safer than sorrier I guess.
