Throttle Cable Routing

Hi,

I'm after some help with the routing of the throttle cables on my FZ6-N 2005.

The throttle is stiff to twist compared to other bikes i have ridden. One suggestion was replace the cables as they may just be old and not oiled for some time. The other suggestion was they may be mis-routed.

So, i looked at my bike and then at an online manual and they go different routes.

Can someone out there have a look at their bike and the side their throttle cables are routed down and either post a photo with an arrow or describe which direction side they go?

Currently, mine are routed through the offside of the bike. The manual shows them going to the nearside. I've got new cables ready to go, but don't want to balls it all up.

My 07 cables goes thru a squarish cable holder initially, thats bolted to the underneath of the upper triple clamp. It then goes down, above the left side of the lower triple clamp and the into the frame(there's a hole there for cables, wires ,etc-left side of the bike as you sit on it).

Once you pull you tank up and remove the air box, you'll see from there how to route the rest of it. (I've had my air box off for the headlight mod but didn't pay attention to to the cable routing.).. Should get ya going...

As a side note, I do have risers with the stock cables and don't have any problems with binding....

Not sure how yours are different to the manual, but when i took the forks ff the weekend, i got the cables wrong when i put everything back together.

SO far as i could tell, there is only one way to do it, that's the manual way. ANy other way they are too short, too tight, or hook on something.

The clutch cable got in the way at one point too (of the throttle assembly under the airbox, and caused a sticking too. The throttle on the handle bars need to be lubed too.

Thanks for the replies.

MattyA - I've just got the standard bars, no risers. I just noticed that the throttle was very stiff to move. It's progressively got worse, but it was when i rode my mates bikes that i realised just how difficult to twist it had become.

TownsendsFJR1300 - My cables go the same route through the clamps but enter the frame from the other side of the bike (right side as you sit on it)

Abraxas - I think the only way the routing differs with my cables and the manual is that it enters from the other side of the frame. (right side sitting on the bike, instead of left side).

I undid the bolts underneath the throttle assembly on the handlebars and noticed there's quite a bit of rusty dust collected. They've probably never been oiled. I've got new cables from my local Yamaha dealer for £28 so will have a look at changing them at the weekend.

Think its time to invest in a Haynes manual....

Please excuse my ignorance, but has anyone got the Haynes manual for the FZ6Fazer 04-08 (Haynes manual number 4751) and is the only difference between the fazer and the fz6n the fairing?

Hi,

I had a look at the manual on this forum which indicated to me that the cables may be installed incorrectly. Someone must have done some work on the bike at some point and routed them incorrectly.
