Thief tried stealing my bike

Hey guys, a few days ago got my bike stolen and recovered within a few hour. these mfs tried hot wiring it and messed up my ignition. Can i rewrite them normally and cover it with electrical tape or does this need professional work? Please let me know.

Glad to hear you got it back, but I wouldn't try electrical tape, I'd use crimp connectors at least or, better still, if there's enough slack in the wires, soldering them together.
 
Any time you are going to join wires, whether with connectors or with solder, heat shrink tubing is better than electrical tape. It will keep moisture out better and will not dry out and unravel.
The trick is to always remember to put it on the wire before you make the connection. :)
 
Really important it to keep the battery disconnected because any momentary shorting can blow diodes in the starter interrupt-cut off relay assembly. They are commonly damaged when bikes are stolen.
They are also becoming hard to get. If you have a bad one I'd like one to figure out how to rebuild them.

Looks like there are now some cheap knockoffs available. Interesting they are also supposed to fit some Ninja 650's.

That link is for a starter relay assembly. It's not the same relay assembly as the starter interrupt-cut off relay assembly. The assembly I refer to is a safety relay system that doesn't allow the starter relay to operate and also stops the fuel pump and fuel injection form operating. It has a 16 pin plug with 2 relays and 10 diodes, 1 being a zener diode. Also 1 resistor according to the service manual schematic. This is one assembly that forces safety protocols on the bike.
It's listed as not available at the Ron Ayers web site. It may still be available at other part supply businesses. If it's something that's going away. I'd like to get a broken one to see if it is able to be rebuilt...

I like this,and it may be good theft insurance;I want one.
I would like to find an OEM Yamaha piece to install,rather than the cheap knock-off;did they come as standard on UK models ?

This is for safety protocol. For example: If you try to start the engine, the bike is in gear and the clutch is engaged, the starter won't operate.
These modules often become damage when the wires in the ignition key harness are shorted and will not allow fuel pump/injection or starter operation. Putting the side stand down while not in neutral.
This module is on all S1-S2 models. It is not an anti theft device although it has blown when some bikes get hot wired keeping the engine from operating.

Yes that is the immobilizer that you've referenced. I've never seen an immobilizer on a US bike. Europe and other countries,yes.
That is a different circuit than the starter interrupt-cut off relay assembly I've been discussing.

There is something funny going on with that part number, seems that there was a glitch in the 'superseded' routine.
Normally the 10th digit of a Yamaha part number is the revision number, and the highest number is backward compatible with all previous versions.
So here we have 5VK-81950-3*-00 where I have put the asterisk in the 10th digit position. The '3' which is spec'd for our bikes is discontinued, although some places still have stock. The '0' (like Veloce listed above) as well as the '1' and the '2' should all be compatible.
The '2' version however, seems to be in use as the 'latest'. It is used on a lot of 2025 bikes (MT10, R1) instead of the '3' which should have been the newest revision.
I'll see if I can get an official confirmation from Yamaha that the '2' actually supersedes the '3', which seems quite strange.

edit: the glitch is not with the Yamaha part numbering, 5VK-81950-33-00 is the latest revision.
Some dealers will play around with the databases, presumably to use up the stock that they have (of previous revisions).

Would either of those numbers be a direct replacement for my S2,still be available from Yamaha as a 'plug n play' replacement 🤔

Something interesting I noticed when playing with the part numbers on Partzilla. The 81950-30, 81950-32, & 81950-33 are all in stock and are listed as compatible with both S1 & S2 FZ6's. However, the 81950-31 says it doesn't fit. I have no idea why that would be the case.
 
I received confirmation from Yamaha that 5VK-81950-33-00 is the latest revision of the part and it has not been superseded or discontinued.
Different dealers and databases will show different revisions in stock or compatible for the various bike models.
That being said, any version of the 5VK-81950-3*-00 will work in these bikes, 0,1,2, or 3 in place of the asterisk.
