Synthetic oil noob questions..

When I bought my bike, the previous owner said that the oil was replaced at the 15,000 km mark with synthetic oil, and next time I should replace it is when it gets to 25,000 km.

Is it true that the synthetic oil is good for 10k km?

When it is time to change the oil, can I go back to regular, or once it's started on synthetic diet you can't go back? Any reason to go back to regular at all?

I would change oil a lot sooner than that. We change approx every 5000kms or 6 months, whichever comes first.

As Kazza said.. lots of opinions on frequency of change. Most people change oil way too early, but in a way it's cheap insurance. If your bike sees high RPMs frequently, changing oil often is a good idea. If your bike never sees over 7k rpm and you run synthetic, I can pretty much guarantee that after 10000 kms the oil will still have all of its protective properties in tact.
You won't hurt anything by changing it too often. I'd say every 5-6kms is a very safe way to go. And I would absolutely stick to synthetic.. better than dino oil in pretty much every way (except it costs more).
It's more important to make sure you always have proper oil level than how often you change it.
There's always an option to take a tiny oil sample and send it to the lab for analysis.. only costs about $15-20. They'll tell you how good or bad your oil is. If you're not looking to keep your oil for a long time between changes, don't bother.

The general rule of thumb is that once you switch to synthetic, stay with synthetic. Going back and forth and mixing is said to cause issues as the two oils aren't terribly compatible. Perhaps something to look into if you want to switch to regular dino oil is to first go to a synthetic blend for a few changes, then go to dino.

Personally, I'd stay with synthetic.

Oil is not that expensive to replace, I do it often with a good filter. I feel that my bike is worth it. I'm Amsoil man, the bike runs cooler and shifts better than the other oils I've used.

Probably it'd be okay. Synthetics in cars can last up to 15,000 miles. Our wet tranny is a little harder on the oil, of course. But unless I've gone bat**** (and it happens from time to time), the manual says to change every 5000 miles. I don't think 10,000 kms is that much further off the top of my head.
