I have 2006 FZ6 with 8000 miles. I have never used synthetic oil since new, and now thinking of using Amsoil synthetic 10W-40 for metric bikes. I have two questions: 1. Can I start using synthetic oil now? 2. If I use synthetic oil can I change the oil every 2 years instead of yearly? I drive only about 2000 miles every year.

I have a 06 and I use Amsoil 10-40, as good as it is and if you only put 2000 miles a year I'd still change oil once a year. I only live a few miles north of you, PM me and if I can figure out to read it lets meet up for a ride to Baker or Winthrup or wherever.

3 quarts of dino or synthetic oil every year is pretty cheap insurance in a climate like yours, I would think. It's like in the service manual. It says to change the oil filter every other oil change. That's 8,000mi.(13,000km.)! I just can't do that. If I'm changing oil I'm doing the filter too. My Father thought me that changing oil is a whole lot cheaper and a WHOLE LOT easier than rebuilding an engine. Thanks Pops! I've never HAD to rebuild an engine from lack of service, only because I wanted to! Rich
