Suspension cranked too far

Hello all, I've been viewing for a while but this is my first post.
I was cranking up the suspension to take the wife out for a spin and stupidly cranked it past 7, I thought it was on six but it wasn't. So now it's almost back to 1 but not quite, there was a loud clunk and now I cant turn it back.
Has anyone else had this problem if so is it an easy fix or is it an expensive garage job?

Are you turning it with the side stand down or on the center stand? Center stand takes the weight off the spring and its easier to turn. Also, use the tube shaped bar in the tool kit, its the extension for the spanner wrench.

Yes I had it on the centre stand and was using the extension and also used a longer extension it seems well and truly jammed. I just had a thouhgt, If I got spring compressors on it, it might be easier to shift

Are you turning it from the left side of the bike?

Yes, I'm doing it all the right way. I just cranked it too far and was wondering if anyone else had been as silly as me and found a way to put it right.

it seems i'm not the only one to have done this. But still not come up with a difinitive answer. I'll hang on and see if anyone has an answer.

Keep turning, you're almost there.

I did try going a bit further but it seemed very hard to turn and I did'nt want to do any damage. Does it need a good tug?

Yeah, no need to worry. Make sure you're turning from 7-1 and not 1-7, and give it that quick tug.

The higher up the preload that you get, the tighter and harder it is to do, especially if you're two wheels down. Just keep trying.

Well I was early and went back to have a go, I cranked it round clockwise one more notch and everything was back to normal, tried it up to 7 and back again and all is well.
