Just got this (at least I got 35% off retail for being a RiderCoach!)

Tell that pesky wallet to shut it. Track riding is good for your health. Where are you doing track days? (I wanted that white cortech before I picked up my suit)

Let's see.... now all you need is:
- a new helmet
- a couple of shields
- gloves
- boots
- back protector
- chest protector
- dedicated track bike
- trailer
- tow vehicle
- couple of 5 gallon gas cans
- a set of tires every weekend
- more frequent oil changes
- lap timer
- suspension work
- canopy
- large cooler
- rear and front stands
- tire warmers
- generator

Just to name a few:D Welcome to the obsession. It sounds like you got off easy with "just" a new set of leathers.
Need another hit off the good old track pipe?

- a new helmet - check (well, I have an old one I use to teach BRC, and a fairly new Shoei for the good stuff)
- a couple of shields - check
- gloves - check
- boots - check (not really track boots.. no toe sliders, but otherwise good)
- back protector: will need.
- chest protector
- dedicated track bike: that's a big one.. we'll see!
- trailer: another big one!.. we'll see.
- tow vehicle - my car can tow one bike well enough (as long as I avoid uphills!!)
- couple of 5 gallon gas cans: will need.
- a set of tires every weekend: this part I know about and do not like!
- more frequent oil changes: *sigh*
- lap timer
- suspension work
- canopy: check!
- large cooler: check!
- rear and front stands
- tire warmers
- generator

I'm screwed!

I'm going to save this list and remind myself it will take me quite some time to get there. Gotta go buy a lotto ticket now...

This is true, Jen, BUT... for $750 you can attend a day-long Cali Superbike School and bring nothing with you!

$750 includes bike rental and full gear (that's right, not just leathers, but boots, gloves AND helmet, should you need any of it). .. and no worrying about oil changes, tire wear, trailering, race bike, etc.

Just saying :D

Lots of guys getting rid of their track equipment right now....I'm on the VRRA (vintage) forum and there have been complete packages for sale (bikes etc) as well as used single items.....tire warmers etc. Hopefully you have a track closer to you than I do to me.
Any chance you could "share" with some rich friend?

Is that a Latigo one piece?
Like?

It's the Adrenaline. It fits me fairly well and as reviews say has loads of stretch panels. Feels comfortable sitting on the bike and moving around, but I won't know for sure until I use it on track.

Come on, Jen, just one hit. You won't get addicted!;)

Erci, hate to break it to you but you're on a slippery slope. One hit of the track pipe turns into many...and then you realize you just can't stop.

Hope to see you at one of the NE tracks sometime soon!

don't forget copious quantities of duct tape and a tool kit :)

you can save a bit of money by turning your tyres, and slicks tend to last longer.

That would require my own tire changing tools and time. If I pay someone to swap them.. no savings.

I'm trying to meet some!

Did you see/hear the exhaust I just put on my bike? (video link in post #64 http://www.600riders.com/forum/im-g...0487-socal-hoons-summers-end-ride-when-7.html)

I'm already addicted and I haven't even tried it! I did, however, hang out at AAA Speedway a couple of weeks ago with a friend and his Sugar Baby.

:BLAA:

But I think I will do best if I follow Erci's tip and go to a riding school first. I'm not interested in racing as much as being able to build skills and go fast in a safe environment with like-minded nut cases. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I will want to race once I know what track riding is all about. I kinda like being good at things...any other perfectionistic over-acheivers out there? Yeah, you're my peeps.

as far as a dedicated track bike goes, why not a 250. there are classes for 250s and you can take them to shorter, tighter tracks and have just as much fun.

but a rashed up 600 with a rebuilt title is always good, since it wont be for road use anyway.

No offense, but it's VERY difficult to go back to 250 after getting used to a liter bike! IF I ever get a dedicated track day bike, I may go with SV650.. it's a great cheap choice.

OOo.. I missed the exhaust video! Sounds very good, Jen!

As for track days, I think CSS is a phenomenal way to start. It's one thing to figure this stuff out on your own, but it's quite another to have classroom time and coaches work with you on track. Think BRC for total beginner vs learning to ride on your own.

BUT.. good luck doing CSS and not wanting to get back on the track again ASAP! :rof:

- a helmet(why would you have to get a new one?)
- gloves
- boots

- a 5 gallon gas can

Things you actually NEED to do a track day. All that other stuff is just nice to have. You can bum rides, borrow stands, etc.

IF you go through a set of tires a weekend then you must be going at a hell of a clip. Like top 10 expert racer clip.

For most people, especially those just starting, my above list is all you need. People get overwhelmed and misguided when they see these ultra long lists. You can definitely spend a ton of money getting into track days, or you can do it on a budget. Just depends on what you want to do with the track days.

Sure it's nice to have a dedicated bike, toy hauler, warmers, new slicks every day, but you don't NEED those to get out there and learn.

Bottom line: JUST DO IT!

NJMP (Thunderbolt). ... for now

Definitely check out Tony's Track Days (my org of preference) and consider a few days at New York Safety Track. NJMP is fun and super fast, but NYST is technical and and has a ton of elevation change that makes it such a blast. And it's a much nicer drive. I'm not saying do one or the other, i'm saying do both and more!
