so me and my dad decided to take a trip down to Berts Mega Mall in west covina, ca because I earned a couple bucks and I wanted to see if they had asv levers and when we get there there's like 20 bikes and all of them had their helmets on their mirrors so I decided to leave my helmet on my mirror as I always do and my dad had mention to take my xbi 2 bluetooth off in case this exact scenario happened...so me and him walk in the store blah blah blah and we walk out and I proceed to walk to my bike and I noticed my helmet gloves and my lucks eights ( in the year of street riding never once have I ridden without it..) were gone.. so at least my xbi 2 wasn't stolen.. but really how screwed up is people these days.

That sucks! Yeah, I always see Harley riders leave helmets (probably because they're not worth much) on mirrors. I use my helmet lock so, if somebody steals it, the strap will have to be cut. How did you get home? I've always wondered, what would happen. "Officer, somebody stole my helmet and I needed to get home! What I am supposed to do?"

That sucks big time, I'm sorry.

I always leave my helmet locked, and yesterday I bought a bicycle combination lock, so now I can also leave my jacket locked and covering the seat. I just tried it today and it is so much better to go places on the bike and now I can leave both the helmet and the jacket "secured" to the bike.

Sorry to hear about your helmet, but you have to be realistic here, things will get stolen! I will NEVER EVER leave my helmet left unatended on my bike. Locked or unlocked. Especailly if there are other motorcycles. The likely hood that somebody stealing something that is bike related will be greater when there are other bikes and riders. I see these kind of threads all the time.

I can't afford anyone to disable my motorcycle by having my helmet stolen since there is a helmet law. I need the helmet to ride, just like yourself in California. Glad that you and your father did the right thing and truck your ride back rather than attempting to ride without your lid.

This thread is great, unfortunately at your expense, but it's a great reminder why you should take your helmet with you every single time!

Ya I use a combination lock and lock it into my subframe by my passenger foot pegs. I know someone has tried to take it from school because When I got out of class it was off the peg and flopping just by the tassel on the inside. If I lost mine I would be furious thats for sure

Had my jacket, helmet and gloves stolen out of the garage last Fall - $1K later, I'm back on the road. Whoever is wearing my gear this year can hit a guardrail for all I care.

I am pretty paranoid about having my gear stolen. So, I always take my gear with me when I am off the bike. Sometimes it can be a hassle, but I would be very upset if I had to replace it.

If you needed to, you could have gone in and gotten a cheap(temporary) helmet to ride home.

In fact, if you had bought the levers at Berts, returned them, and bought the helmet.

Frickin Berts could afford to have security, or one of the not busy, harassing salemen, guard the parking lot.

You can't fart in that place without a salesman sniffing it and asking you if that fart wouldn't smell better if you bought a bike today

That sucks. You have way too much trust in your fellow man!

if I leave my helmet on the bike anywhere but the office or home I lock it to the frame using a rubber coated heavy duty bicycle lock and loop the chain through the helmet, not just the chin strap. No one is getting my helmet unless they are carrying bolt cutters.

There was this rider in town who had his helmet locked on his bike and found an Ice Cream Cone inside of his helmet when he got back. Problem was, it was 110 degrees so it melted. Not sure which is worse, somebody pissing inside your lid or using it as a garbage bin. Something to think about for those who think that nothing will happen to their helmets when it's locked. People just have no respect for other people's belonging. Suspect it was some kids.

Sorry to hear about your helmet. Berts has a reputation (as do many mega-dealerships in SoCal) for attracting the douchebag variety of riders.

I agree with the other poster who talked about having either security or one of their worthless "salesmen" brutes hang out in front to keep an eye on things.

As Vegasrider said, unfortunately where there are other bikers you will have a greater likelihood of having gear stolen, not less. There is no respect for others' personal property any more, if there ever was to begin with.

I try to never leave my gear with the bike. I have a little backpack that has a net type of thing that can hold the helmet as I walk around.

Check out NewEnough.com - or whatever their new site is called - to get a cheap replacement. Bummer man.

That just blows, sorry to hear about your loss. I had two helmets locked to my RD400 at Fox Hills Mall, years ago and someone just cut the straps. I haven't left any gear on a bike since.

Once, I left my KEY in the FZ6 ignition at a casino parking lot structure near a heavily foot traffic area. Can you imagine? It was still there when I came back out over two hours later!
