So sick of this

Pick out one of your mom's bad habits, and find out everything bad about it that you can and compile it. Then, every time you see her start hitting her with some of the stuff and if she tells you to stop say that you'll stop if she stops.

Also, I like the idea that HavBlue had about the CHP magazine showing her the car accidents.

The truth is... your mom loves you and is concerned for your safety. How would you feel if she never expressed concern? She may go overboard, but she doesn't ride with you. How does she know how you "really" ride? Like the others suggest, educating her about the differnce between you and the Midnight Racer and the mere passage of time will help. I have an 18 year old son who I would LOVE to ride with - we've done thousands of miles on bicycles together, but I won't get him a bike. I've seen him with his car, his bicycles, his skateboard, his rollerblades and even his go-ped, and tha has taught me that no matter what he says, the only question is "how fast can I make it go?" It's because I love him, that I won't let him get a bike. But as soon as he's on his own and buys one, I'll be his first riding buddy. Parenting is tough, and I know understanding parents can be even tougher, but once you are one, you'll understand.

Thanks for all the replies. I already have all my gear...there's no way in hell she would ever buy me gear. To her, that would be contributing to something she doesn't want me doing.

She, like others, puts all motorcyclists into one category. She has no idea the way I ride and I've tried to tell her, but she just won't listen.

My family (aunts, uncles) used to go to Glamis and I was not allowed to ride a dirtbike, so I could never go. She claims that she had a bad experience with motorcycles, but you never know with her, she doesn't always speak the truth.

I guess I just need to ignore her...because I've already told her everything I can.

The CHP has a magazine that I believe is quarterly and it is pretty bad in terms of vehicle accidents (mostly cars). They hold nothing back in terms of the pictures. If you can befriend an officer you may be able to get a copy of one. Give the copy to your mom and ask her if she is going to stop driving because of what she has seen in the magazine.
That won't work, she has already seen everything...she was a cop for 10 years.

I get the same thing from my parents every so often. I usually just ignore them and change the subject. They usually get the message and stop. Or I just don't get into a conversation with them about it. I hear them out, smile and then start speaking about something else. Sooner or later they get tired of it and stop. I know they will never stop (thats how parents are) but it gets them off my back for a while. Why don't you try it...

One of my customers that is a Dr. told me today about a guy that had a car pull out in front of him. He hit the car, wearing she said a 600$ helmet. She said his body is fine, but he is brain dead and they are removing life support today. She is a real nice lady, I like her. I hate that the risk is there, but I love riding.

P.S. she blasts across the lake at 70mph on a jet ski. LOL
