Its amazing how fast both Casey & Simo can go on the hard tyre. If its dry, those 2 mite just bugger off up the road.

Can't believe Casey's line through the final turn, straight over the kerbing mid apex

Yeah, really unfortunate for Crutchlow, he has been in incredible form this season so far.
As for The Doctor...he's in a lot of trouble this week. Just gotta hope that it's a wet race, otherwise he has little chance of finishing even in the top 10 :(

That was incredible. Wouldnt be surprised if more and more riders take that line tomorrow come race time, you KNOW that the majority of the riders will be watching film of it

I was at the track today and the disadvantage of being there is you don't have the immediacy of knowing everything second by second that you have on TV. They ALL look very fast and the noise is incredible, something you don't get on TV.

I gained a new respect for motorsport photographers, I took 257 pictures today and the majority are crap :( either slightly out of focus or the damned fence is a feature. I fiddled with the settings but I guess I need to be a lot closer to the fence to eliminate it from the photos.

I have a Canon 350D and Sigma 170-500 zoom if anyone has tips before tomorrow.

And those of you wishing for a wet race.... SHADDAP!!! :spank:

The weather was livable today, it got to about 18C which was enough for some of the locals to get their shirts off but by the end of MotoGP qualifying the clouds were building and I had my windbreaker on. 5 minute from the track we hit rain so that might have affected the Red Bull Rookie Cup race.

Fingers crossed for a dry Sunday but the weather forecast is calling for rain for most of England

Great job by Casey again. At least Jorge and Simo are a bit closer this week. What's with Dovi, over 1 second behind on the same bike as Stoner???
Stoners 2:03.0 on a hard tyre (after doing race distance on them too) is pretty good, Stoner and Sideshow should put on a good show.

Crutchlow was doing so well too, shame to see him out. Edwards not doing a bad job either with a broken collarbone. A round of applause for Karel Abraham too, 6th on the grid - first time at the track and first year in MotoGP... Best placed Ducati on the grid... Awesome stuff.

As for the final turn, wonder how many will try it in morning warm-up after viewing the line Stoner takes... And how many will pull it off. Sideshow was cutting it a bit in those last Qualifying laps too. If you don't get it right, you'll get chucked off the bike... We don't need any more broken collar-bones... There will be no-one left to race...lol

Andz... You need to bribe a flag marshal to let you go down with them... Would get some awesome shots then :)

Not familiar with that lens Andrew , is it a HSM model ??

Best advice I can give you is to pan (follow) with the bikes mate & keep firing off pics

A shutter speed of 1/500th will give you some nice motion blur but if you want to freeze the action get it up around 1/800

Us an ISO of 400 or lower , any higher & the pics suffer from to much noise

Marshals.... yesterday on the one turn we were walking past and there is a space about 2 metres wide where there is no fence. During the Moto2 FP3 I stopped to take a pic and immediately a woman moved in front of me. I asked her if she was going to stand in front of me while I took a pic and she said "this is not a spectator area, keep moving." Biatch!

Hump I tried the panning thing but hell I got more pics of empty track than anything else! Not sure about HSM or what that is, I borrowed it from a friend. I'm sure if I get close enough to the fence and get the right F stop I can eliminate the fence from the pictures, if not I will tell people it is a special effect :D

:rof: Follow the bike from further away when you start panning & it easy  And HSM stands for Hyper Sonic Motor , i'll go google the lens specs now :D

Stupid question but I have seen people try it before & fail but , You are using the viewfinder when panning & not the LCD screen right ??

Ok , I just checked it out & it does not have a HSM so you may be better off pre focusing on the area you wish to shoot

This is an SLR, you can't use the display. I tried the prefocusing and it was a bust. If the weather is crap today I am leaving the camera in the car anyway.

Thanks anyway!

Yeah I knew it was an SLR , just thought use could use the display on live view on the 350d the same as you can on my 500d

I just had a look at the 350d & it doesnt have the option like mine...
