I forget the exact statistic but the US gun owners account for less than 1% of the world population but has something like 60 or 70% of the guns.

Not even close. The US population is around 315,000,000 (not including undocumented illegals) and the world population is around 7 billion. That puts the USA at about 4.5% of total world population.

EDIT: Just caught the "gun owners" part. If you meant only those in the US who own guns then, disregard.
