Shift Lever Bolt not Threading In

I just got my new foot pegs and had to take the shift lever off to get the left one on. I've done this before and it was maybe a two minute job.

This time, though, I can't get the bolt that holds the shift lever on to thread into the hole. My first thought was that I'd somehow messed up the threads. I inspected them pretty carefully and cleaned the area a little and for some reason it just won't start to go in.

Has anyone else had any problem with this and is there any sort of technique that I'm missing this time?

It's a little vague and random, but if anyone else knows what I'm talking about and can help at all I'd really appreciate it.

Whenever you have issues with threads, - these two thread-cutting tools will be your saviour:

The inserts comes in different sizes, - depending on the bolt size you need the thread for.
Go to your local hardware shop and get these, - you won't regret it!
