After buying a used FZ6, I have realized that the stock seat had not been designed having human anatomy in mind. The seat is pitched too much forward making rider slide toward the tank where the seating surface is very narrow and offers no support. Secondly, the foam is too rigid and transfers vibes.

Because of these issues I have decided to modify the seat. I made a simple alteration by cutting out some foam to accommodate a gel pad. See the attached pictures.
First I made the main cut with a sharp saw, second, I split the cutout piece into two, third, used the top part to trace the shape on the gel pad, fourth, cut a piece of the bottom from the discarded foam to level the sag in the seat base, and fifth, I placed the foam piece on top and stapled the seat fabric.

Even though it looks on the last picture that I shaved the sides a bit too low, it is fine because when I sit, the main piece sinks a bit, almost to the level of the side cuts.

It took me roughly 45 minutes to do all of this, including stapling back the seat' s cover. The gel pad and extra seat I purchased on e-bay for the total amount of $100. If you want to do a similar modification, take your time cutting gel cause it is not easy.

By reshaping this seat and by removing the rectangular rubber cushions from the bottom of the seat, I have reduced the seat vibes by approx 90% and at the same time made the seat more flat.
All that puts a smile on my face knowing that I can ride much longer without making my ass numb. :)

Now I've found another thing that annoys me which is the vibration of the handlebars. That will be my next project.

I had Spencers,( Page 1 ) re-do my seat with Supracore, (not gel,-supposed to be better) for less than $100 with a very short turnaround time frame.

I'm very happy with the results and didn't to chance destroying my seat. He does mods (trims, etc) as well.

Note: I had this mod done to help eliminate any vib's coming up thru the seat as it was pretty bad and very annoying.

A thottle sync at idle and 4K helped a bunch with the vibes thru the bars as well as the foam grip puppies. My Olympia leather/vented Gel (on the inside of your palms) gloves helped with the rest. Very, very comfy now....

Thanks for the heads up about the Spencers. Maybe I will use them in the future for a different bike. My bike has over 8k and I think I will visit a mechanic for a sync job. I appreciate your replies. Here is the finished product.

i read on another forum somwhere that people are putting those cycling shorts with jel in ,under their leathers,im gonna try this when i can be bothered to get some

The seat is one of my big gripes.
I don't find it uncomfortable, but agree the way it angles towards the tank.
I've hit potholes and nearly passed out after having my nuts crushed against the tank......:(

Spencers will cut/trim your seat for you after speaking with you. I have combination risers/set backs and don't have a problem leaning forward as if in the stock position. I left my demensions stock...
