Screen for 08 Naked

Been out today, trying to keep up with a mate on an old Kwak.

No probs up to 60MPH but much above that and the buffeting made it uncomfortable to the point of being dangerous... this sucks.

So it is either sell it or get something to relieve the wind blast (I am just over 6 foot).

Anybody any recommendations and preferably pics, need to be available in UK and hopefully reasonable price.

So far in my searches I have found screens that look OK with no spec on bike year, only to find what looks like same screen on another site that says it is for up to 06.

Yeah, I hate wind buffeting, and have gone to great extents to stop it. My FZ6 is faired, so the solutions I've used won't work for you. My previous bike was naked, and I put a big Givi screen on it, which worked pretty well. These screens are pretty generic, and are spec'd by the diameter of the headlight. They have flexible mechanisms to clamp onto the fork and handlebars.

I believe it is the new style clocks that the bike specific (better looking) screens have to fit around that makes the difference.

My wifes GSR has a tiny screen as standard and is so much better to ride at speed. If I had the GSR screen and gearbox I would be 200% happy with the FZ

Well the screen came today, the screen itself looks neat, but was very disappointed with the brackets which initially looked naff.

The instructions are pretty pathetic, once you work the fitting out it makes sense but if only they had spent five minutes longer doing instructions it would have made fitting much quicker.

I initially fitted the brackets, and placed the screen up to them, it all seemed miles out, the brackets a good 1cm outside the screen on both sides. Trying to bend the screen round them didn't work, the way the brackets fitted just looked wrong.

So decided to try fitting the bracket to screen first, everything then seemed to fall into place! So I added blue locktight to the screen to bracket screws, as I guessed they may well shake loose. I then slid the whole thing into place and fitted the new bolts and spacers.

I actually like it now it is on right, just need to try it (hopefully tomorrow) and see if it does what I want.

Here are some pics, will get some better ones later.

Edit:- Forgot to say the side light illuminates through the screen (so looks purple on the dark screen). Not sure if this is legal, but will see what I think when it is dark.

Looks nice! Don't you love that about "instructions". Most of the time I find it easier and faster to just lay out all the pieces and figure it out myself! And women wonder why we don't like following instructions.....

As for legality, not 100% about the UK, but I don't think there is law regulating the colour or opaque'ness of a motorcucle windsceen, especially one like yours where you are not acutally looking thorugh it...not even sure if you could if you tried!

Even on a fully faired FZ6, I have a PUID and I don't even look though it. Lots of people even paint there screens. I think you should be fine.

On the naked FZ the side light (parking light in US?) is in the top of the headlight so the screen actually covers it. So the side light is only visible through the screen, eg ends up being purple and diffused instead of white.

Hi "alanrim" i'm well impressed with the look of your screen and i will be getting one as soon as possible. I'll foward some pics when mine is fitted.

It looks mean in Black ( the best colour for the Naked bikes!! )

How did the test ride go ??

Please let me know before i buy. I'm 6' 1" tall so i'm keen to find out if it will help to reduce the bufferting you get at high speeds.

Had my second real go with the screen today, did about 60 miles in varying conditions, and the result is..... I LOVE IT

Reckon it looks pretty good, and does exactly what I wanted. I think it is fractionally noisier around my helmet (it is a noisy helmet anyway). But the buffeting has gone, I can now do shoulder checks at high speed without the helmet trying to rip my head off.

The blast I used to get square in the chest has all but gone, still get blast on arms but that is nothing. Indicated speeds have been up to just over 70mph, not tried motorways yet but sure they won't be a problem now.

Black is defo best

How are you getting on with the standard mirrors, I thought they were bollocks, ended up getting some after market "bandit" mirrors which actually allow me to see beyond my arms.

Wow love the photo and the Video.

That has definately improved the look and the best screen i've seen to date for the money. I'm short of cash at the mo but i will be buying one as my next priority. Like the hand guards too mate, Where did you get the hand guards from? do you have the model number for them please?

My mirrors are crap too. The off side one is ok for the blind spot area but the lifesaver glance still is the only way to make sure. I'll keep my mirrors as they are for now.
Next year i want a road legal exhaust, maybe a Scorpion or Akrapovic.

Is the screen you fitted to your FZ6 the dark black or the light black?? I've just noticed on their website that they have a few different shades.

I'm close to buying one now to get the bike ready for my trip to Holland.

How does it perform when cruising at motorway speeds ??

Mine is the dark black.

I ain't a speed merchant and try to avoid motorways (boring) but I have been 80 (on private roads of course) and done a little bit of motorway riding and the screen is perfect for me.

I highly recommend the blue locktight for the threads holding the bracket to the screen as the rubber washers don't allow the bolts to be tightened much (without the rubber washer popping out) and I am sure without the locktight the bolts would have come loose by now.

Hi All, not sure if you know this model from Puig new generation (4511 I believe). It work better than I supposed, I'm happy with the result.
