Fitting the Scorpion decat pipe should be quite a simple mod. It wasn't for me, but I think it was worth it! The bike runs and sounds much better now. I do however, think it's over-priced for a piece of bent pipe with a nut welded onto it! It's also called sometimes called a mid pipe or Catalytic Converter replacement pipe.

I needed some Holts firegum (liquid gasket as the pipes didn't fit properly when I installed my cans before) and a mini blowtorch thing. I'll explain how I used them later:-

This is the original decat pipe I was sent next to the stock decat pipe:-

This is the replacement pipe. I was sent the 2004-2006 pipe instead of the 2007-2009 pipe which was an inch too short:-

I realised when taking off my cans that the Y pipe had a smaller exit to the can on the left side of the bike than the right to make the flow equal:-

And another view of it:-

I had to take the seat, side pods, tail unit, current exhaust cans and stock decat pipe. The instructions with the cans and decat pipe are absolutely useless, you need a Haynes manual to do this or have done it several times like I have!

One of the first annoyances (apart from being sent the wrong pipe in the first time) was that the Scorpion cat replacement pipe did not fit onto the Y pipe going to my Scorpion exhaust cans. They were basically exactly the same size. I tried squashing and expanding the Scorpion Y pipe, but it wouldn't go inside or outside of the decat pipe. In the end, I had to get my angle grinder and cut 4 slits into end of the decat pipe that fits to the Y pipe. Then I was able to squash it down using hose clamps so that it fitteed into the end of the Y pipe.

I used lots of Holts Firegum inside and around all of the joints. This is how it looks like when it is wet:-

I followed instructions on the Internet and used the blowtorch to heat up the firegum all over to dry it out before running the bike. It's really cool stuff. When it gets hot it bubbles, expands to fill gaps and dries hard:-

Here you can see the cool new decat pipe from the rear:-

Once I had got the majority of the firegum dried out with the blowtorch, I started the bike and let it idle until the fan came on. This seemed to be enough to cure the firegum without putting too much pressure on it or heating anything up too quickly.

Here it can be see from underneath the tail:-

Here it can be see from underneath the bike. You can see where the decat pipe fits onto the stock pipe and also where the O2 sensor is:-

Here's a view of the undersides of the cans and the joins:-

Here you can see where I used loads of Firegum where the Scorpion decat pipe fits onto the Scorpion Y pipe:-

Here's a nice view of the setup from the side:-

When it was all done, I made sure that I unplugged the battery for several hours to rest the ECU. It runs brilliantly, although the idle is a bit high when I just start up the bike.

Here's a video showing the difference in volume between the Scorpion pipes with airbox mod and the pipes with the airbox mod and decat pipe. It's damn loud, but not as bad as the pipes were with the DB-killers removed. I didn't try it without the DB-killers and the Scorpion decat pipe - but it must be incredibly loud!

Brilliant write up SANGER!

Did you order your de-cat from M&P by any chance?

I did, and recieved the 04-06 pipe despite specifying it was an '07 bike! I had some reservations about fitting the decat because of the physical difference in size between the stock and Scorpion, and the pipe has been sat in my garage ever since... This has given me some confidence to go ahead at fit it anyways, armed with a shopping list, I'm off to Halfrauds!

Fraid you won't be able to fit it! I hope you haven't taken it to bits. I had to send mine back to M & P and wait a month for them to sort it out and send me the proper one! I had to ring them in the end to nag and it was sent out a couple of days later. They've updated their system now and shouldn't have a problem swapping it for you at their cost if you ask. If you look at the pipe on their website, it updates the item number if you change the bike from 06-07. I would ring rather than email if you want a prompt response.

Good luck with it! It's not easy. The Arrow may be easier, but that's £89 from M&P. I'd rather use the angle grinder and waste and extra half-hour.

Was it really that difficult? I only imagine it would be one stop more than changing the exhaust if you got one that fit properly.
How much was the blowtorch and firegum, I would have thought it brought the prices quite a bit closer, and its kind of strange that it doesn't fit properly!
I've heard of some people getting the decat pipe made at a local exhaust place on the cheap, which can make sure it fits and be much cheaper.

I already had the blowtorch. The firegum was about £3. I needed the firegum anyway as the fit wasn't perfect on the Scorpion cans anyway.

It may be that I was unlucky and got one that didn't fit - or it could be that way with all the Scorpion decat pipes. But I scratched it up etc while trying to get it to fit and seeing as I doubted the M&P would take it back like that I hacked it up a bit to make it fit. My slight extra labour was the only extra cost compared to the Arrow decat pipes extra price of £45 and it was an experience that improved my grinding/exhaust skills/knowledge, so it was a saving in my eyes.

Ohh nice, yea I've been considering this mod but don't have all those tools etc, so I've been weighing up whether all that effort would be worth it compared to paying a bit more (heard of some easy successes with the arrow decat) or maybe trying to find a local shop to fab one up for me.
Do you know whether the ones meant for the 07 onwards fit properly?
Have to admit the sense of accomplishment of doing stuff yourself is always worth far more than the ease of paying a bit more :D

The pipe I had WAS the one for the '07 onwards (or should have been). The 04-06 one I had before was an inch too short. I have no idea about the Arrow pipe fitting or not or what years it is for.

I am also considering the Arrow one. Does the bike feel more free revving and powerful? I do not want too much noise and the high idling worries me. Aslo concerned about the ECU needing resetting ?

You would need to "reset" the ECU by unplugging the battery for a few hours whenever you do anything to the air/fuel/exhaust system (hole in airbox, end cans etc). It's not a big deal. After doing that, the idle has fixed itself and is about 1500 when just turned on and settles down to 1100 in 30 secs to a min. I'm not an expert enough to tell you about power etc. I think I feel a bit of an improvement - but that could be in my head!

Hi, there! :Flash:
I'm going to put a really good self made decat pipe, made by a exhaust specialist in his garage, hah! :) Inside the pipe is empty as is... I saw the Scorpion decat had a little lamel inside...
My Question is: Is it so important, or using an empty blank pipe is not a good idea? My bike is 2005 non oxigen sensor... I have also K&N Performance air filter, Iridium Spark plugs and I didnt touch the fuel/air ratio.
So, what should I expect with decat pipe and K&N filter?

I don't know what a lamel is. If you were looking at the picture below, that is of the Y pipe that you get with the cans, it is not the decat pipe.

The decat pipe needs to be completely clear all the way through for the best flow. That is the advantage over the cat.

If your enlarging a pipe, then a flaring tool is a good idea -
