Rizoma bar end help on the throttle side

Hey guys,

I recently installed some RIzoma grips and Rizoma bar ends on my '08 FZ6. I finally figured out how to snugly mount the bar end on the clutch side, but now I'm having some problems installing the bar end on the throttle side without binding up the throttle. If I make it as snug and secure as I want, the throttle is bound. If I loosen it up to where the throttle can roll freely, the bar end is kind of wobbly. Any advice?

Ahhh VINDICATION!!!! Finally, someone else with Rizoma bar ends is having the same issue as I have!!

I never understood how people could mount the throttle side with no binding issues... I can only think that there might be some handlebar differences between different model years of our bike?

Yes, I have the same problem and in fact it already cost me a bar end as it fell off somewhere on a ride and had to order another set from PJ.

The problem is the rubber insert and blot are not long enough to get deep enough into the handlebar.

PJ mentioned that there are some washers in the package and you can use a couple to 'stand off' the rubber insert and push it farther back.

I just tried this this past weekend and this is what I found. I found the max washers I could use and still get the little tappered end to thread onto the end of the bolt was 2. This mounted better, but I think I will still have to go out and buy a longer bolt of the same size and thread (Home Depot) then add more washers so the rubber insert is farther down the bolt and get's into the inside of the hnandlebar better.

Adding the two washers did help and I was able to tighten it better than without the washers and it could get tight without binding on the throttle.

Another option I was told about was to take apart the throttle and slide the whole throttle/kill switch assembly up the handlebar a bit, then install and tighten the bar end, then slid everything back down and tighten into place. I didn't like this approach as you have to cut a mounting tab on the throttle assmebly that fits into a locator hole dirlled into the handlebar and your throttle will be up higher than it is now (now unballanced from the left side controls?)

This was one of the first Rizoma products that I was was not overly happy with the design of it and again, I have no idea how this problem could not have been found during product development/testing.

Hmmm. Not the answer I was hoping for. Wanted something more along the lines of, say, a quick fix.

Anyone else had this problem? If so, how'd you fix it?

Alright, I'm still well in the ongoing saga that is snugly installing Rizoma bar ends on the throttle side of my '08 FZ6. I swear, this is one of the worst products I've EVER used, but I'm determined to make it work. Here's what I'm thinking, if anyone cares. Input is very much appreciated.

I went and got a longer hex head bolt, 50mm. I have about 8 or 9 washers on the bolt, then the Rizoma spacer (which is fatter and smaller), then the rubber bushing, and then the conical screw. Well, that's not working. I can't get the bushing deep enough into the bar to even start screwing it in. Any suggestions there?

I have the grips and bar ends on the way,although the bar ends I ordered are not the same as yours.
Will let you know if the problem is on the type I,m getting as well.

This quote is from the page for your bar ends:

"They can also be used with many stock grips, as long as the grip does not extend past the end of the handlebar."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the grip extend about 5/8" past the end of the handlebar. Do your Rizoma grips extend past the end? Pics would help.

This is probably the only way to do it right, but instead of cutting the mounting tab off, just drill another hole in the bar. Do the same thing on the clutch side and everything will be good.

I don't think very many bikes use the style of factory bar end that the FZ-6 does. And I don't think Rizoma has a bar end designed to work with bars where the throttle tube hangs over.

Another idea I had would be to use a spacer to fill the gap. Probably some 3/4" od pvc pipe would work. You would probably still need a longer bolt.
