I'm using an Escort Solo 2 battery-powered radar/laser detector. I chose it because of portability, and no need to tap into FZ6 wiring. They say the two AA batteries will last about a month. They have been in there a month already, and still show good power, so it's looking like battery life may be more like two months, maybe more...

Mounting:
Drilled two holes in stock clear windshield, removed suction cups from the Escort factory mount, and mounted using two screws & nuts. I used foam, laminate and rubber to isolate the mount so screws wouldn't crack plastic wind screen.

It's kinda hard to see the LCD during daylight (at night it's great). Although at speeds somewhat under 40 mph you can hear the warning beeps most of the time, but at highway speeds or greater, when you most need it, forget hearing the built-in speaker over the wind noise.

I'm currently plugging an earphone into the provided jack and sticking speaker in my helmet. That works okay, but now I'm looking for a wireless way to get the sound into my helmet...

i can't remember where, it was a while back, might not have even been an fz6, but someone had a V1 hardwired into their bike and it still looked good so its more than probably doable on an fz6, its just v1s are kind of bigger than the average radar detector as far as i know (i use beltronics myself)
