problem with gauge

Hi everyone. I have problem. I bought gauge to my 05 fz6n with the same connector as was in the old gauge but it doesn't work fine . Controls and backlight works good but LCD doesn't. Wiring are the same in both gauges. Below you can see pics with this problem.

What should I check? Maybe gauge is broken I cleaned connectors but it doesn't change anything. Thanks for help and sorry for bad english.

It could be many number of things and my first thought is that the case was somehow compromised and moisture has entered the cluster electronics. I don't know how accessible the interior is but maybe you can open the unit and get it dried out. After that find where the moisture has entered and silicone seal it with some black RTV compound.

If you can't open it to blow it out then bring the unit into a warm dry environment for a few days. Then replug it in and if it works, again RTV it to seal the unit.

No. It's the end of LCD I think.
It's hard to open. I will put it in warm place for night and if it won't help the only choice is return it to the seller and get money back.

Hi, there.

If the units are same kind, then problem is LCD itself.
Mostly, LCD unit contact problem like Mr. nccorder said.

1. LCD plate contact/connection >> lossed >> try to push back LCD itself with your fingers on the various points while power is on.
If you see any sections of LCD is On/Off while you pushing the plate, then it's the problem.
Don't push hard, LCD could be easily broken out..

2. The LCD control IC is gone >> I don't know if there is controller IC inside the unit ??? (or controlled by another IC ??)
If then, LCD might not turn on or shows display like your problem.

looking at the silk screened numbers on the back of the instruments, it would appear that the two units are not identical.

Old: 1B3-10 41N
eBay:1B3-00 41D

I cannot say with great certainty if this is important, but it is different. I agree that there is at least one connection to the LCD that is not making contact, which explains why 1/3 of the display does not 'light'. But it could also be due to a broken lead on the board, or an open contact on an IC, a broken off component, corrosion....

Were it me, I would return it rather than fight with it. There are quite a few people here, who have installed after market instruments.... Koso(?) makes a nice one, as I recall.
