Hi
I have a 2004 FZ6 with 22000 miles on the clock, the problem is when I'm in top gear, doing 50mph, the bike gives the feeling of somthing juddering/not right, it's hard to explain, similar to having a nail in a tyre, it only happens at 50mph and only in top gear, the chain and sprockets seem fine, not over tightened, no oil leak round the output shaft, no nails in the tyres, wheels are balanced, anyone got any ideas?
I'm worried the output shaft bearing might be on it's last legs!

If that's the original chain on the bike, its likely toast.

Can you pull the chain away from the rear sprocket at all and if so, how much does the middle run of the chain rise and fall? It should NOT pull away from the rear sprocket at all..

Look very closely for any links not straightening out as well. If you have the stock Yamaha front sprocket, it has a plastic type edge just inside where the chain would ride. If the plastic is worn thru AT ALL, the front sprocket is toast too... there's likely lots of gunk built up under that front cover (3 bolts to remove, leave the linkage alone) that should be cleaned out...

As a side note, its EXTREMLY rare for the output bearing to fail unless you way over tighten the chain. Make sure its NO LESS than 1.75" total, up and down play when on the center stand at its tightest point...

And WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

:welcome:to the best forum on the WWW! :D

Could be you have an old chain and sprockets or improper chain tension. How about the rear wheel alignment?

Your chain slack should be 1.7 to 2.1 inches.

Again welcome to the forum!

Hi all

Many thanks for your thoughts and welcomes.
The chain does pull off the rear sprocket so a trip to the shop for new chain and sprockets then!

Chains need lubing and adjusting... Have you never had a bike with a chain before? Even a bicycle chain needs attention once in a while...
