Optimate vs CTEK battery tender - I need an adaptor

My mechanic (i.e. the guy running the shop where I store my bike during winter) fitted one of those quick connect battery charger connectors on my bike to hook up his battery tender without having to remove the fuel tank.

My problem is that he has a Optimate 3 tender (OptiMate Battery Optimiser, battery care and charger by TecMate) and fitted an Optimate connector while I'm using a CTEK tender (The smartest battery chargers in the world, by CTEK Power INC.). Featurewise they are almost identical, but the connectors are far from the same. The form factor is different. One of the big pros with the CTEK connector is that it has a handy status indicator (OK, charge, low) on the connector itself for a quick battery check.

I have attached pics of both the Optimate and CTEK connectors (both open and closed). Do anyone know of a store that sells an adaptor of some sort so I can hook my CTEK charger to the Optimate connector?

It didn't come with another end to attach to the bike? I would think the company would have the correct end to bolt to your bike....

Just looked it up on their site. They have a pig tail that looks correct for yur charger: COMFORT CONNECT - eyelet. Available as M6 (6.4mm, part no 56-260), M8 (8.4mm, part no 56-261) and M10 (10.4mm, part no 56-329).

I think he means an adapter to connect the ctek bit to the optimate wire.
I doubt something like that exists. You could connect them both though or persuade the guy where you store your bike to get a ctek.

Thank you for the reply, but the reason I want an adaptor from my CTEK charger to the Optimate quick connect is to avoid having two quick connectors on the bike. One is enough, IMHO...

You're absolutely correct regarding the adapter.:thumbup:

As I mentioned in my reply to TownsendsFJR1300, I don't want two quick connectors on my bike if I can avoid it. The mechanic is not likely to switch from Optimate to CTEK. I guess he has around 75 bikes stored every winter, and he probably fitted an Optimate connector to most of them.

And one more reason - I don't feel comfortable removing the tank myself... :don'tknow:

The connector on the optimate is the same as (and often known as) Tamiya battery connector. In UK you can get them from Maplin they are also widely available on ebay 1 PAIR OF TAMIYA TYPE BATTERY CONNECTORS - MALE/FEMALE on eBay (end time 07-Jun-10 03:04:39 BST) (make sure it isn't the mini version)

You would need to solder/crimp onto the cable provided by CTEK, eg you would cut off the rings and wire into the Tamiya connector.

Thanks a lot for the tip! This is very interresting, and I have to look into this.

Somehow, I feel a lot more comfortable cutting and soldering cables to create my own little adaptor, instead of removing the tank to fit an original CTEK quick connector. My brain works in mysterious ways, I guess...

Its not difficult to raise the gas tank and get access to the battery terminals...
