Hi,
Im new to the forum and I’m hoping you can help. Im the second owner on my bike and it has 28k miles. The coolant has signs of oil In it. I flushed and put in new coolant but the coolant but after riding a few 100 miles the coolant is showing signs of oil or other contamination.

The shop said its the head gasket but seems blown headgaskets are uncommon. What other sources may be common? A friend suggested the oil cooler or water pump. I love the bike and it runs fine and it doesn’t overheat. The oil is fine and I changed the oil when I flushed the coolant.

If it were me I would check the water pump first in hope that it was a seal replacement instead of a head gasket problem. Regardless, if it's a head gasket the FZ6 is such a great bike and worth repairing.

The water pump is likely. A leak down compression check, with soapy water sprayed around the head, would confirm if there is or isn’t a head gasket leak.
