No ramp. Bike on pickup truck. How to get it down?

Find a u haul or some sort of rental truck. You can utilize their ramp and ride it down into the back of the truck by connecting the ramp between the two trucks. then place the ramp onto the ground and back it down.

Find a truck at a local convenience store and hopefully the delivery truck has a lift gate. Get it level to your truck and let the hydraulics do the rest.

Go to a hardware store and get some ramps.
This will save you from expensive damage later on.
Use the right tool for the job.

I agree.

-- otherwise of the remaining options it seems like a few people to lift it down sounds best, or at least have someone else around if walking it down a board.

When I used to ride dirt bikes we made our own ramps. Just take that 2x12 and bolt a piece of flat steel with a 30 degree bend or so to the upper end of it. The bend will roughly conform to the tailgate and will do away with the hump that you were talking about. Let us know how it goes.

If you make your own with the 2x12 - add a acnhor screw to the bottom side then run a tie-down strap or a rope to the back of the truck. It helps keep the ramp in place.

klr trick with ramp and two/three guys should work. Also you can try putting a ramp in the truck and drive to nearest gym! you got the idea..

Lone, are you still alive, buddy? ;) We are getting worried:BLAA:

Having a buddy in this scenario is the most important in my opinion.

I wish i saw that KLR video when i was unloading mine off the uhaul truck - I bought two 2x6s and backed the truck up to a hill to decrease the height difference. half way through the 2x6s started to move apart and it wasn't pretty. As i was stuck holding the newly acquired bike trying to prevent it from falling half-way on the ramp (now it wouldn't go back up), i saw my neighbor driving by. I waved at him and .... he waived back and kept on driving.

Luckily KLR has a lot of front fork travel, so i managed to pull it off eventually w/o dropping it.

If it's facing the right way...start it, rev the crap out of it, drop the clutch, get some air under that front wheel, and jump the bike off the trailer!! :BLAA:

Sorry, was just watching the worst bike movie ever...Torque! That's what they would of done in the movie!

Haha, I wonder if that'll start a new thing among riders like WWJD (what would jesus do?)......

WWTDIT...............What would they do in Torque?

for the record I posted on a local forum and someone was kind enough to let me borrow their ramp for the evening.

I was just very worried about unloading......my new R1!!!!

Even with the ramp though the headers got stuck on the ramp. It was 30 below and slippery so it was definitely frustrating. The guy had given me a great tip and I used it to get the bike over the hump on the ramp.

-put the bike in gear
-lock arms into wheel
-lift rear end
-walk backwards

you can supposedly unload a bike with 2 people this way without any ramps. i just used it to get the bike over the hump but in the event anyone ever needs to unload with 2 people without ramp this is pretty easy on a sportbike:

-roll bike so back tire at end of tailgate
-put bike in gear
-lock arms into rear wheel
-walk bike backwards until front wheel at end of tailgate
-put rear tire on ground while other man stabilizes front
-other guy hops down
-both grab and lower front of bike to ground
-smile

You forgot one thing from those instructions...

After the smile you should add beer...:iconbeer:
