Next bike hands down

If the next FZ1 does not come out with the cross-plane crank, then Yamaha will be saying goodbye to a huge amount of potential sales to a very hungry bike buying public, who are expecting no less...

So this bold prediction, is more a confirmation that everyone has been talking about the FZ1 replacement having the R1 donk as it's heart!

I reckon the new FZ1 is odds on to feature the Cross-plane crank motor from the R1...."detuned" for more midrange as usual...it will be one nice naked bike, that's for sure....the 1000cc Naked market is more and more about "muscle" these days....

Yamaha, please dont do an FZ8 on us with the FZ1! GIVE US WHAT WE WANT!

pretty please!

From my past experience with the Crossplane Crank I can tell you no inline 4 develops torque the way this engine does. The R1 has very tall gearing and probably because you would easily have the front wheel up if it had lower gearing out of the hole. The R1 is heavier and has a few less horsepower than it's competitors but those peak HP and weight numbers didn't mean anything when this machine was tested on the track. It's the combination of how and when torque is delivered. I don't think I'll ever experience a combination like this in a sport bike again..... unless.....
There are a lot of great videos that talk about this motor and why it is such a successful design. This technology was lauded as hype until riders experienced and learned how to use this motor. Oh! and the sound! Haha! the sound!

I'm almost thinking, "Why detune it?" Just set up a different set of clip-ons fairing other plastics on the R1! If they do do the Crossplane Crank on the FZ1 it will be awesome!

I agree, why "de-tune" it....but they will, it's a Japanese thing....they always do....if it was MV Augusta, then they would just unbolt the motor from the full faired bike, and drop it in! but that is the Italian way...

:D

Engine aside, is that what the next FZ1 will look like? Me likey. That was my major beef with the FZ1, goofy looking eyes. This looks spectacular.
