My first water crossing!

Just had a wicked thunderstorm roll through and deposit a ton of rain, that in turn flooded three of the streets that I use to get home from work.

Lessons learned:

1. The mighty "6" does not float, but does handle quite well if you keep a good pace.

1.5 The headers create quite a bit of steam!

2. People in cages that see a bike in deep water are idiots!

3. I should probably have waited longer to leave work, or sought an alternate route once I discovered the flooding.

4. Our lovely city has no clue what the term "drainage" means.

5. All in all I kind of enjoyed the experience :tard:

Pretty fun isn't it? A few years back I94 had a patch that was under water between milwaukee and waukesha. It was only about a foot, but none of the TRUCKS even tried to cross. For about a 30 foot stretch up to mid calf was in the drink. It was a blast! Glad to hear you had similar success. quick question though, was yours standing water? That changes the equation a bit. Mine was standing and had no current.

Just the nominal pace of water seeking the nearest drain, the waves created by cages was a little more challenging,and of course my rain gear was neatly stowed at home.

I know what you mean with 1.5, it steams so much that I got worried the first time it happened..I was thinking all this crazy stuff like what if the headers cool down too fast? can that hurt something?

but like you said, the fz handles this stuff just fine

Good timing on this post. I'm sitting in my office listening to the thunder and watching it pour rain - gonna be a wet ride home and I'll likely need a life jacket.

So what happened to bring on #2? One thing Florida seems to do well is drainage. Of course it rains every afternoon here. Even when I had to drive to work in a tropical storm the streets seemed to drain fairly well, and I didn't hear too much about flooding.

Should have prefaced #2 with "some"... some dipwad in a truck decides it'd be funny to speed up and try to swamp me, he was partly successful...

Indeed today I thought I was going to get my share of heavy rain, but after I left work it was all calm and even some streets were dry already.

To add to this I have to say that I'm very happy with the "new" completely shaded parking where I'm leaving my bike at work!!!!! No direct sun, no rain and today we had a pretty big storm :thumbup:

Clearly you haven't lived there long enough to go through a bad hurricane! :BLAA:

I don't think they like me. We haven't had anything hit except a tropical storm in the five years I've been here. So that's good. If a hurricane does hit, I won't be in FL!
