Motorcycle Fatalities Soar While AMA Partners With Miller Brewing

Uh that seems really smart. LOL
No matter how you slice it alcohol companies greatest profits come from heavy, brand loyal drinkers, not the guy who has two beers on saturday after mowing the yard, or the girl who has a cooler with him.
The companies are not stupid, and wont spend money where it wont make them a profit.
For example, we have a place in town called Whoa Back bar and grill.
They have huge Budwieser, and Miller signs that say WELCOME BIKERS.
Every weekend a huge crowd of bikes sits there all day.
If anyone remembers me telling about the guy on a harley turning into the wrong lane and only being alive because two different cars with girls driving moved so he could turn in. Thats where he was headed already drunk.
If 50% of the fatal crashes have alcohol or drugs in the biker, wouldnt sober riding bring the fatality rate to 50% less?

I would expect the more motorcycles you have on the road, the more motorcycle accidents you will have. That is to be expected. More cars, more car deaths, more people in the world, the more human deaths. Common sense, Does anyone expect that if you increase the number of motorcycles on the roads that accidents would decline? For those people who don't understand this phenomenon, I have the perfect solution to end all deaths from cars. Simply outlaw and get rid of all cars. Problem solved!
I hate when statistics are looked at in such a simplistic way. I do believe that there needs to be a better education system for beginner riders, but I don't know if it is necessary to go to the graduated system that the UK has. I remember the sensationalist story that "20-20" did many years ago on the Jeep automobile. They implied that it would flip over and kill you even if you drove 20 miles per hour, and anyone (no matter how you drove it) would die driving it! Stupid press!:banghead: Sorry for the rant.
Oh, and I found a statistic that says that 70% of auto deaths are due to head injuries. Shouldn't we require by law that everyone must wear a helmet when driving a car? Just think of the lives we could save! btw- I have seen a recent statistic that stated that 70% of motorcycle deaths in the US involved alcohol. In most cases it was the biker that was drunk.

I hate to admit this, but when I was young, my buddy and I would get drunk then go out riding at night. Always fast and with no caution.
I don't know how I am alive today after that behavior. Stupidity, lack of concern for others, and the ever-present belief of invincibility when you are at that age led me to do such things. I look back and feel very lucky and fortunate to have been allowed to do these things without consequences of harm to myself or others.
I bet there are a lot of kids out there with bikes who are doing the same thing now that I did then.
I won't get on a bike having consumed a drop of alcohol. I figure I have used up all my luck already

One thing I've noticed about the motorcycle world in the past four months are some very sloppy statistic reporting. This report, yeah, deaths are up, but so is the number of total riders, you need to take both number into account.
An article posted on these forums claims that there are six times more fatalities on >500cc sized bikes than on <500cc, but they don't list the total number of >500cc vs <500cc.
My MSF course instructor said that only 1 out of 7 riders who are killed on motorcycles have ever had the MSF course. Well, we need to know how many of total riders have had the course, too. Duh!
OK, I better get off my soapbox before I fall and become another statistic...
