Today was great. I met up with two guys from a local sport riders forum early in the moring. We rode back roads for 3.5 hours then grabbed breakfast. 3 strangers sat down for breakfast and we were yapping like a sewing circle :BLAA: You would have thought we'd known each other for years.

But anyways the real point is that I got to take part in a private riding clinic today put on by 3 control riders who are on my local forum. We found a big open parking lot and set up some cones. The point of the lesson was to learn how to "drag knee", or just practice better cornering technique. For a group of guys I'd never met before, at an informal meeting in an empty parking lot, I couldn't have paid for better instruction.

They did demonstrations on a stationary bike, showed us how to transfer what we learned to a moving bike, and even video taped us as we applied what we learned. I gotta say, I was in way over my head. I couldn't really get the hang of linking each technique to perfect a knee slide. Matter of fact I wasn't even close. BUT, I did learn a lot about lean angles and how comfortable I feel taking corners faster and more confidently. I especially learned a lot about moving around on the bike

I rode about 40 miles home from the session and found myself going over all the steps I could remember and applying them to the street to create a more fun and more safe ride. So....if anyone gets the opportunity to take any kind of riding classes I'd really, really recommend it. I was lucky enough to have some guys do it for free!
