thankfully, nothing bad came of it, and i delivered the fz to it's new owner yesterday afternoon.

Well.. you survived, so thank God there's that. I don't know when you spotted the car before it started pulling out into your lane. Should have been well in advance... I would have swerved the bike side to side and honked my horn, but that's just being hopeful that the driver will pay attention. This particular person.. very good chance he or she would still have pulled out.
Ideally you want to be able to shave off enough speed to come to a full stop and not have to go off the road, but sometimes that's not realistic (plenty of roads here have 50mph limit and hidden driveways.. how slow can you go?)
