Was riding home from college around 3:30 pm 9/4/12 in a rain storm on the thruway trying to get home to go to sleep and be up for work by 9:30 pm for my 11pm-7am shift.
Well I was riding far too fast for the conditions (also in need of a new rear tire) and lost control going close to 80mph. The back end slid out to the right and i turned the bars hard to the right to try and put the rear end behind but it swung back harder to the left and the next thing i know i'm tumbling.
I bounced a few times on the pavement and but somehow made it to the grass and in the midst of flailing and being whipped around, something clicked inside of me and said i need to ball up and so i did. I feel like some external force pushed me to the grass, the bikes stayed on the pavement the whole time. I did have plenty of traffic behind me so i am pretty weirded out by the whole situation. I should be dead. Instead i just have very very very minor road rash, no concussion, no broken bones or anything. I almost went to work the night it happened but did lots of waiting at the hospital.
Now here is my dilemma, i do have insurance on the bike but no collision, just comprehensive. I am not really sure what i should do with the bike. The damage is only on the right side of the bike, and i am thinking about just stripping the thing down and parting it out, not sure if i have the patience or dedication to do so. I was planning on selling it by the end of this season to upgrade but i'm not sure i can trust my self on another street bike. I was really tooting "One and done", hence never purchasing frame and wheel sliders even with more than enough money, but i'm not so sure i can stay true to that.
Well here she is, what now?
Tweaked handlebars:
Cracked/scratched front right fairings:
Dented gas tank
Slid on the frame for awhile, i think the engine gas might be cracked, it was leaking oil from somewhere (hoping from the dipstick) when it was laid down but that may be because it's not supposed to ever be on it's side
Ripped off right footpeg plus bent rear brake control:
Grinded rear axle + swingarm:
Slid on bitch bars:
The thought of stripping it down and making it a naked FZ just crossed my mind, but that is only plausible if the motor case isn't cracked. :shakehead:
