Apart from the fact you can clean the K&N Air Filter. Does it improve engine performance over the stock filter?

dont you need the power comander to use a k&n filter.. for keeping the engine from running lean??
Hi Steve,
There is no noticeable difference in the performance whilst you ride. A dyno may pick up the odd half a hp increase.
What you do get is a nice increase in induction noise and a filter that will last 1,000,000 miles if maintained correctly.
The maintenance issue was why I wanted the change. If you want an instant increase in usable performance do the 15T front sprocket MOD.
You won't need a power commander to install the K&N.

The induction noise get a bit deeper and at high revs 6500 growls a bit. It does not change the riding experience. I actually like the quite exhaust note.

If you have an aftermarket exhaust and a PCIII, you should get a K&N.
When I installed the K&N filter, it leaned out my fuel mixture so much that I had to change the PC map.

No !!!!! im guessing a few will argue with me but the simple answer is "no the bike's EMS resets itself so it isnt and issue"...Thats a direct quote from a very good mate of mine and head mechanic at TopGun Yamaha :thumbup:

I'd say so , he told me that about my bike and mines an 05 model....Says he can do just as much with the bikes onboard system than he can with a PC111....

Only the 07+ have O2 sensors, and thus self adjusting ECU's.
On all the models(european atleast) you can adjust the CO settings to adjust fuel mixture, but it doesn't do it by itself.
I have a K&N Filter, Two Bros Carbon Exhaust,and a Juice Box controller. This set-up works well for me:rockon:

You can't beat that. I got a great deal on the Two Bros after purchasing the Two Bros exhaust.:thumbup:
