Jamestown Sept

Sept 4th or 5th I'm meeting up with my son in Jamestown, actual date and meet up spot TBD as we get closer. He's coming from Whidtbey Island on his 650 VStrom and we are going to check out the Yosemite Valley RR and the WSLC stuff around the area. Then ride over to Willits for the big steam doings-

So far we plan on mostly camping out if my old bones can take it, if not we always have he motel option.
I'll probably ride home on Hwy 1 for a ways and then cut inland on the 166, but I'll just play it by ear when the time comes.
I'll post up better details as we get closer to Sept.

Just got off the phone with my son and we are going to meet up on the 6th of Sept at Marble Quarry RV Park - Contact Us
I'm going to reserve a tent camp site for the 6th and 7th and after that we will problably head for Sacramento to take a look at the California State Railroad Museum
May camp somewhere around Sacrememto or motel it for a night, will decide then.
Will head for Willits after the museum and spend a day or so there.
As far as my route home I will decide as I go, no set plan.

Well, if you know me, I prefer hostels (you can also get private rooms there). Sacramento has a unique one (restored mansion) (Sacramento Hostel) and about 6 or 8 blocks from Old Sac but you have to abide by a few "rules.". Embassy Suites and Holiday Inn are also within walking distance. La Quinta, Super 8 & Motel 6 also have Old Sac (somewhat) nearby units on Jibboom St/Richards Blvd. Vagabond Inn on 3rd St, is super close and probably the closest, most reasonable? If circumstances were better, I 'd recommend chez moi!

I checked out the Sacramento Hostel and it looks like a really neat place to stay. I'll see what my son thinks but should be a go and its not to far from the California State Railroad Museum:thumbup:

To Tailgate and Lefty, we never made it to Sacramento or the coast. Stayed in the Sonora area the whole time. My son had a spin out on some gravel that looked just like the pavement and banged up his left ankle a bit so we decided not to leave the area and just explore. We did make it to Yosemite, what a sight that is, kind of leaves you awestruck.
I'll post up some pics and even the video of my son spinning out in the gravel as soon as I upload everything.
All in all it was a great ride and something my son and I are going to do on an annual basis :thumbup:

Here are a few photo's of the trip. I covered over 1200 miles but my son will have way over 3000 miles by the time he gets home. Sprained ankle and all he still went over to Willits and then on to Crater Lake and up toward Mount St Helens, my son the iron man:thumbup:

Hwy 108 on the west side--

Decided that my "Old man body" would not like sleeping on the ground so opted for this little cabin with a porch to kick back on and a real bed. This is at Marble Quarry Campground, a really neat place for a base camp to explore the Jamestown, Sonora, Columbia, etc area.--

Sonora, everything runs down main street, even loaded logging trucks!!

Way cool Jerry! My in-laws have a cabin near Groveland in that area, and we have wanted to go to the Jamestown museum. Now I'll have to be sure to make a special trip there, the kids would love it!

This is on display in Tuolumne, about all thats left of the West Side Lumber Company except for a few structures--


Site of the spin out, gravel looks just like the hard pavement especially with polorized sunglasses on--

Along Cottonwood road, this takes you out into the back country for about 60 miles, great riding area--

Coulterville, Hotel Jeffery, been in operation since the mid 1800's--

A most excellent trip especially as I got to spend time with my son and had a heck of a time keeping up with him, rides like Calirider, very smooth with very little effort, must be all that mountain bike racing that he does.

We plan on making this an annual deal, can't wait until next year
