So today my girlfriend of one year and I broke up. I rode the bike to her house in the cold pouring rain to do it in person because I'm not one to use any form of technology for such a conversation.

On the way down, throttle felt a little funny, like it was hanging up a bit. Figured because of the rain some corrosion made its way into the throttle cables. On the way back, I pull in to get gas, turn the bike off, and give it a full twist on the throttle to make sure everything is returning as normal.

Sure enough, cahruuunchhh. Throttle cable almost completely frays and breaks. I'm telling you my bike is gonna miss this girl possibly more than me :(

Managed to make it the rest of the 40 mile ride home with a built in cruise control...Barely able to modulate the throttle. Yeah it was stupid and I should have parked it and called a tow truck, but I was already in a bad mood and didn't really give a flying @#$@ what happened.

Well now I have no girl, and no bike until I get this fixed. I'm gonna grab a beer... :(

Girls are like buses, stand with your money out in your hand and a next one will sure come.

Sorry to hear about your ****ty day.

Shiet happens, don't dwell just move on. Just remember the good times with the ex GF.

Under the circumstances I understand your mood and riding home. I dont know why you broke up with her but years ago I dated a girl, she started with mental head games....I talked to my mom about it and she gave me the best advice EVER. She said, "Do you see yourself with her in 5 years?" I said "No". She said, "Then you know what you need to do".

We had been dating for nearly a year. She was great but lately I kept feeling like I wanted to be with other girls. I'm not one to cheat or even make moves on other girls while in a relationship. I Couldn't give her my 100% anymore so I decided it would be best to move on. She was devastated and I feel like an A$$ but I know that in time it will be for the better.

On another note, how hard are the throttle cables to replace?

I dated a girl for months after that point (i was too nice to do it over the holidays). just do your own thing for a couple months, dont try to please anybody for a while. thats how you figure out if it was right.

Sorry, but I laughed for ten minutes after reading that! :BLAA:

The cool thing about being a guy is, we actually do have feelings and an emotional side, but in the end the practical side floats to the top, where it should be.

Sorry about your day man, maybe this will help...

When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend.

When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion, so I decided I needed a passionate girl with a zest for life.

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 30, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground, so I married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned.

I am older and wiser now, and am looking for a girl with big tits.

Ohh man, I was hoping for a happy ending to your story, that sucks man.

From reading countless things on the internet and the papers, first thing I do is a prenup to at least protect my family heirlooms.

i hope you do in fact a find gorgeous girl with big tits, lol.

Sorry to hear about your bad day. Funny story about GF's though. I was in the same situation as you (minus the bike), dating this girl for just over a year and thought it was time to see other people. She was devastated when I broke it off. 2 months later, after finally figuring out what I wanted in life, I realized that I had made the worst mistake of my life. I begged for her to take me back. Now we've been together almost 11 years, married for almost 4 of those and have a 2 year old daughter. Life is funny like that, when you meet the person you're meant to be with, you just know in your bones. You'll find the person that was meant for you, even if it takes awhile.

Anyways, sucks about the bike. I wouldn't imagine the cable would be too hard to change as you can look at the current one and just follow its path with the new. Odds are someone around here has done it before.

Everyone is taking the emotional side!

Throttle cables are easy - there are some screws on the bottom of the plastic grip - you'll have to take all 3 out, and take it apart, I don't think you'll have to pull it off of the bars, but finding the hole to put it back can be a bit rough. If I'm not mistaken, the throttle cables come with the plastic housings already on them (I should hope they do). But yeah, just follow the path that the cables on the way back through. I think it's a pretty simple hook up deal at the other end.

GTP- that is i think the best d*** advise ive ever herd!!! LOL

and to the op- that sucks haha yeah when i get like that i like to shot s*** and break stuff lol its always fun and theraputic :BLAA:

I'm a bit confused. Every time I broke up with a girl in my past life...I always felt GREAT afterwards!

If you broke up with her it was obviously for a reason. Something better is on the way!

Get your girl fixed! (FZ6). It's the only girl in your life that will do what she's asked and rarely let you down.

Got my bike fixed yesterday. It was pretty awful not being able to ride all week. My ex and I talked and we're going to stay on good terms. We decided that getting back together is a possibility, but for now we are going to do our own thing. GTP, your post made me LOL

Glad to hear the bike is back in action! Just keep the positives coming and focus on them, ignore the negative. Way to easy to have tunnel vision on the bad things when down.

Think long and hard before getting back with her. I did a similar thing with a girl after dating 4 years and it took 2 more miserable years before we called it quits. Figure out what you want and go for it. there will be many other girls(and bikes) in your future if you keep your head up and go for what you want.

I want to ride my bike more than anything! but its in the low 40s and raining, hopefully Sunday it will be warmer. Nothing cheers me up more than a nice twisty road and boy how do i need some cheering up. Guess Ill take the subie instead.
