It finally happened (battery)

so after owning the bike since oct of 05, i now need a new battery.. currently the bike is in storage on a tender that runs for 4 hours a day.. bike started fine a month and half ago, but today when i went to start it up, no go.. lights work fine, but the starter was clicking when trying to start.. i assume it probably just time to get a new one.. don't know what the dealer is going to charge, but really dont want to pay $100 for a new one (though i probably will).. any other suggestions about where to find a new one that would be a little cheaper??? cycle gear? motorcycle-superstore???

I just bought a Scorpion. Did a fair amount of homework and these seem pretty good. The price is right.

I have an 06 and it really pains me to replace a battery that works perfect, but we're doing a trip to Canada in 6 weeks and I just don't want to risk it.

Looks like the Yuasa YT12B-BS can be had just about anywhere for around $50-60 online. I doubt any local shops will be too out of line with that. Oh, and don't feel bad about having a dead battery, as the weather here FINALLY cleared up, and now I'm sick! Perfect timing! Thanks everyone who went to work sick last week! :rant: I'll trade you! lol

checked the battery today (finally).. hooked up the multi-meter and found that the battery was @ 11.3 11.4 (when bike was off).. it had been sitting on the battery tender, so i have deduced that i probably need a new battery.. I could try the old car charger, but i think i would rather just replace it to be sure..

Thats what im thinking... but where are we seeing Yuasa's for $50 online?? cheapest i have seen it puts it right around $85 shipped.. I really would like to stick with this oem brand as I have had good luck with them (first one i will be changing since i have owned my bike)...

You can get the Parts Unlimited version for $56.95

Yuasa makes both, but I still think the Yuasa branded battery is better. Regardless through a Parts Unlimited dealer either one comes with a 1 year warranty no questions asked.

Whoops! Looks like I googled the wrong part number. :tard: Sorry about that! Looks like they are indeed around $100. That may seem pricey, but their batteries really are that good. I've got one in my TW200(after neglecting and killing the crappy OEM battery in a few months), and it just sat for a month, no tender or anything, and it cranked over the bike as if it were just charged. And yes, if your're seeing under 12V with it on a tender, then it's done for.

anyone have any suggestions for a different brand of battery.. i really dont fell like spending 100$ on a yuasa no matter how good it is.. would like to spend somewhere between 50-75 but be able to get at least 2 or 3 seasons from it.. suggestions???

I rode mine yesterday for the first time in about 3 weeks. I pushed the starter and it turned a few times then clicked and stopped. I have an Optimate 3+ but I don't leave the bike on it. Pushed it out into the road, 2nd gear, bump and she started. I went on a ride of about 150km with 2 stops and it seems fine now.

Still the original battery after 7 years.

I would stay away from walmart for a battery, you will be lucky to get 1 and a half seasons out of it and they pro rate their batteries. If you buy a Yuasa from a Parts Unlimited dealer they have a no questions asked 1 full year warranty...... replaced at no extra cost....

I just replaced mine with a OEM Yuasa from my local motorcycle shop, less than $80.00.

Make sure if you buy on line, you get the fluid as well. I was told their shipped dry and some shipping companies won't ship battery acid... They need to be trickle charged to get a full life time lout of them as their shipped 80% charged... Mine, on a BMW advanced charger, took almost 10 hours to come to full green (the BMW charger seems to go deeper than my battery tender although they look the same)...

BTW, I noticed my dash lights going out on occasion when cranking. A volt meter, connected to the battery WHILE CRANKING, had the voltage go as low as 8 VOLTS and it still started...
