ok, so if some of you read my other post, issues with peeling the fuel tank back, this is the the continuing story of why i needed to get under the tank. Several weeks ago, I was involved in an accident and the crank cover took the bulk of the damage.
So from the accident, I walked away with a hole punched in my cover. Oil leaked everywhere and I was forced to fork out $170 to have my bike towed 4miles to my house.(i would've walked it but I tore my ACL) yuck. Several days ago, I received a new cover and yesterday I proceeded to replace it. However upon removing the cover, I discovered there was damage to my stator coil. It apparently jammed up against the rotor assembly which shaved down the protective coating on the coil. I looked up the price yesterday and it's a whopping $190.

you can see where the coil touched the rotor
this is the other side of the coil. you can see it didn't touch the rotor however there are signs of corrosion in the copper. it's moldy green.
The coil bolts into the back side of the cover which allows the rotor to spin around it. The manual calls for loctite on these screws. I couldn't find any information as to which loctite so called up the dealership and the tech said to use Blue.
Things to know from this:
Loctite blue for the stator coil bolts.
Stator coil wire connection is just under the fuel tank.
The screws to the stator coil(see red arrows) is a T-30 Allen Star bit
The screws to the cover is a size 5 Allen bit
Also, the manual calls for 10Nm (7.2 ft-lb) for the stator coil bolts and 12Nm (8.7 ft-lb) for the cover bolts. The only torque wrench i can find that goes that low is the Craftsmen torque wrench 5-80 ft-lb. And it's on sale at Sears right now for 89.99.
