I'm a new rider. Passed the MSF course a couple months back and wanted to get into a bike this summer still. I read all the hype about beginner bikes. All of it. I had countless opinions on what my buddies thought i should be riding, cruiser style, 250 ninja's, standards. So i sat on everything i could, rode everything i could, payed no attention to hype, but payed attention to what "I" felt most comfortable on and managed throttle control and braking well. I knew i wasnt a cruiser guy from the get go as i didnt like the riding style believe it or not. I found i like a tad bit aggressive ergo's but not so much that i'm slumped over the tank. In the end i narrowed my choices down to a suzuki gsx650f, new ninja 650r, yamaha FZ6R, and the FZ6. Mind you price for me wasnt an issue, but as anyone would, I wanted some bang for my buck. The new ninja looked "cheap" and the motor sounded like an air compressor, the suzuki was just too bulky and heavy. The FZ6R was a little cramped and my nuts didnt like the tank. The FZ6, well, perfect. What do i like about it? Fit and weight are right on, undertail exhaust, 180 rear tire, ergo's, inline 4, yamaha quality, list goes on. In the end I found a mint 08 in cobalt blue with 1800 miles from a gal who needed cash for nursing school. $4800 took it. Great forum guys.
