I was on the news!

I know it's not really a big deal, but I was on KTLA channel 5 news in SoCal tonight. With all of the road closures and storm weather, I wasn't able to make it to Bakersfield this afternoon to go to work tomorrow at my hospital (Kern Medical Center). The grapevine is closed.

So as I'm getting out of my car to ask the CHP about the likelihood of the road opening, this reporter asked me for an interview and I got my 15 seconds of fame. I can't find a video link right now on the website, but I'll post it if I find it (I know CaliRider saw it since he text'd me right after).

If you watched the 10pm news today, my real name is Robert Winston. I expect my hollywood contract offer any day now.:cheer:

Yeah it has been snowy up here too, had close to 15 inches on Monday and more coming. Lost power for 8 hours on Monday but my Kawasaki generator works great.
Seems most of the US is in a big freeze this week.

Seriously, traffic is terrible in the SoCal basin at this moment. All 3 North/South passes that lead to Los Angeles are closed by heavy snowfall. And we are supposed to have another major storm arrive Sunday. Quite unusual for this area..

Yeah, some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the US is in California. Lake Tahoe is amazing!

We have it all. Many people do not realize the highest and lowest points in the continental US are in California. Mt Whitney over 14k feet and less than 100 miles to the east is Death Valley at 230 feet below sea level. This is one big a$$ state, over 800 miles long, so it is not all beaches and babes (nothing wrong with that)as you see on TV.
I do think we have some of the best riding in the world. When it's not snowing!

Thanks bro. What sucks is that I interviewed in the freakin' cold for like 5 minutes of video to get that 5 second spot on the news. My balls were shrunken little raisens by the time we were done!

That storm that hit Southern Cal also hit Vegas, as the strip recieved 5 inches of snow. And yes I rode my bike into and from work today. It was one of the most challenging commutes I've experienced. LOL, I almost went down when I got to my driveway, it's uphill.

Hope the weather turns out for the better, as I am heading to LA on Saturday morning. I would hate to resort to taking the plane.

You know, I didn't realize that. I knew about Death Valley but for some reason I've always thought Pike's Peak was the highest point in the lower 48. Come to find out... it's not even the highest in Colorado

Now I feel more prepared for jeopardy!

They said white out conditions on the one video and showed what they were talking about, I've driven home on the highway here like everyone else, where I wouldn't have seen that sign that was 35-40 feet in front of them that they could see clearly.

But I guess when it is uncommon, they have to talk about something other than the country going down the drain in the news. Glad you didn't get crushed from someone sliding or something.

We get our fun here tonight, they forcast between 1/4"-1/2" of ice buildup, then it's supposed turn into snow with 6"-12" projected, more possible in lake effect areas(where I am, so add another 4"-6" to the projected...). Oh, lovely Soutwest Michigan...I'll be having fun in my '97 accord coupe 5spd, with no abs...wish I was still driving my tuck...

Yeah, the roads wouldn't have closed in Michigan for this, but we SoCal people aren't prepared for it. I, for one, have summer only tires on my car because my car never see's any snow. Even if they did open that road with a little snow on it, I wouldn't have made it over the mountain pass. CalTrans just isn't prepared for this kind of weather... not enough plows to keep up with the snow fall.

Be safe out there bro... trade that accord in for something with all wheel drive. Like a Subaru WRX STI! Now those things are fun in the snow!

All roads leading to the LA area that go over a mountain pass are closed at the moment. Check the CalTrans website before you get on the road. You can type in specific highways and it will give you updates.
