On my way home from work tonight around 2 am., I came across a very nasty wreck. I noticed a state trooper with its light and siren on speeding down the interstate as I was entering the on ramp. A mile or two down the highway, I merge off onto one highway onto another, which is a sweeping one lane right hand curve which I like to take pretty fast. It was in the middle of that curve that I noticed that the state trooper had stopped and I had to brake very hard. I noticed two vehicles had crashed, and one SUV overturned on the side of the roadway. I have mentioned this on another thread, here in Vegas, for some stupid reason, most of the median, shoulders, and interchanges consist of sharp rocks that are about the size of our mirrors. Unlike grass, any vehicle that hits these rocks will be history. Looks like at least one of the vehicle loss control during the turn and went into these rocks and overturned. It also scattered these rocks all over the roadway, the aftermath was horrible. I had to negotiate my way through these rocks like an obstacle course. The trooper had instructed the other drivers who stopped and witnessed the wreck to not allow any vehicles through. But I was allowed to go through since I was first and I guess I could get thorugh with my bike. As I was zizaging my way through, I made a point not to look at the SUV, becuase I knew that from the way the SUV was in, the person or persons in that vehicle didn't make it. The point is, coming across something like this on a bike is more chilling because being on the bike makes you closer to the actual scene. It's not the same as if you were in your car or truck. You can hear and smell the aftermath much more when you are on your bike. The crash is much more chilling.

Wow, that's pretty gnarly dude.

I completely agree with you on it being a far different experience. I've driven through two accident scenes so far this year (1 bike, 1 scooter) and both times it took more will power than i would have thought to keep my eyes off of the mess and on the road. It really is different when you don't have a wall of glass and metal between you.

Couple of months back, was allowed through an accident closed road by a police officer (as he new I could cut through a back route), only to find that it was a guy on a bike and he didn't make it. Makes me think twice a day as I ride past the spot...

Aprox a month ago I split a queue of traffic on the highway (spliting is allowed here), only to find that it had just been closed due to an accident. Anyway I was stopped for a short time with a front row view of an accident between a car and a bike, it looked like the bike had been forced into the median crash barrier by the car. It didn't look good for the biker with who had several ambulance guys/girls around him, I'll spare you the graphic details. Anyway this is permanently burned into my memory.

This is a permanent reminder to be careful out there, take care everyone.
