now if this isnt the appropriate section for this, im sorry. ive been grilling over this theory in my brain for awhile. i noticed that an engine that is double the size doesnt have double the hp, but usually close to double the torque. so i thought if you had a 500 single vs a 1000 twin for example, that maybe then the hp would be close to double with the torque difference being the same, just higher in the rpms. am i wrong? let me point out im comparing two engines with the same design and purpose. ive compared many different machines, and it seems torque peak numbers are similar if u say, compare a 600 twin to a 4 cylinder, but of course the higher revving 4 takes the hp crown. also, a 600 inline in any modern sportbike puts out about 44 ft-lbs of torque. a 1000 is like just over 70. 600 + 67% = 1002. 44 + 67% = 73. the differenece between the displacement and the power is near identical, and ive noticed that with many other examples as well (125 2 stroke makes half the torque of a 250 2 stroke etc). so all i guess im getting at is if anyone else has done cmparisons like this and came to trhe conclusion that double the displacemen = double the torque? i know this may sound dumb to some, but ive just been thinking this through when im bored:ban:
 
A 125 has 66% the tq of a 250 at 19ft-lb vs 29ft-lb.

There are too many factors, and there is going to be a general amount of difference, but it has to do with too many things than just displacement.

ive never seen a 125 with 19, i saw more like 15-16 and over 30 for a 250. also im comparing engines designed for the same purpose, not just based on size
 
Ok.

If you're going to look for a correlation you will find it. The available technology today across manufacturers is similar, so you're going to see similar numbers for similar displacement for similar purpose.

Compare bikes from 10 years ago to now. Compare a 1000cc bike 10 years ago to now. There is going to be a difference. It has to do with technology.

yes.... im comparing bikes of the same year. but i think u will notice is the hp s what jumped up the most, though comparing new to old wasnt what i was doing at all...

another example: http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0808_ducati_848_suzuki_gsx_r750/photo_04.html 750 + 13% = 847.5. 53.9 + 13% - 60.9. very close to an identical difference
